Posted July 16, 201014 yr My budgies laid four eggs and she sat on them almost all the time, I hardly saw her comeout. When their due hatching date came they did not hatch and after an extra week she got of the eggs. This was here first clutch so I`m guessing that might have contributed to the eggs dieing. After 5 weeks she cracked one of the eggs and there was a full formed baby inside. I then cracked the rest and they all were the same. Is this because of the cold? Nate
July 16, 201014 yr Last time you posted you were colony breeding. You said you were removing the nestboxes from the aviary. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....&pid=338805 What exactly have you been doing this time.........more details will help us work out the issue. I have chicks and we live in Perth too. Edited July 16, 201014 yr by KAZ

I have chicks and we live in Perth too. I have followed all your advice I have not colony breed and have done everything you said. I had 1 pair in my aviary together who laid the eggs and none of the other budgies bothered them at all and they were happy cheerful budgies, all healthy and clean. The only thing I found really interesting is that the hen mated with to boys (the first day with one, and the 3rd day with another). But there was no fighting or anything like that. Does any of that help?

Does any of that help? Having any extra budgies in the aviary while breeding IS colony breeding. You have not grasped what was advised you the last time. I would not blame the cold for lack of results. More likely the distractions and interference of extra budgies in the aviary while you are colony breeding.
July 16, 201014 yr nate for you to be breeding a pair of budgies that means one male and one female the males may not of had fights but they may of come in and out the nest or she may of got of eggs due to them trying to get her atention of who to mate with her first for second round distracting her from sitting corect eggs can addle from being left on and off a bird should not leave nest for more than the timeit takes to eat and drink then return to keep eggs warm if in aviry the distance from food to nest also may be to far cages are the only way to go unless you have a working colany which you have not or have not been able to achive so if i was you id just buy a cage and try it or make one its not that hard an old tv unit or cubbord easily transforms use you emadjanation but please try it just once you will be very pleased to see live healthy chick and happy mum and dad

This all sounds good, and I would think that for successful colony breeding, these statements would all have to be true. But there is always the possibility that there may have been some fighting going on when you were not around to notice. The others had some good points about what could go wrong. Another thing that could happen is that when your hen went out to eat, other birds could have blocked her from getting back into the nest. If they kept her away from the eggs long enough, that could be a reason they died. I hope things go better for you next time!
July 17, 201014 yr Based on your age you go to school. There is no way you would know for certain if all was harmonious in the aviary while you were at school. If the female was kept away from her incubated eggs for an hour or so, the chicks would die in the shell in most cases. Edited July 17, 201014 yr by KAZ
