Posted July 11, 201014 yr I am so distrught at the moment. I have no idea what has happened, My last born chick is not useing one of its feet he wont perch on it and it not just his foot. His wing on the same side he always seems to be stretching it!! I am so worried and I dont think there is anything that can be done!! He is hesitating to put any weight on it, he is however managing to climb up to food but I have put some on the ground so he can eat easier. He leans when he is perching, standing and does not seem very comfortable. But bless him he always runs along the floor when he sees me (running with a hop that is ) I love him to peices!!
July 11, 201014 yr Hi Jodie, I know how you feel.....I have had excactly the same thing happen to two of my babies this year. One I decided to get euthanized at the vet as he got worse, he got to the stage after 2 days that he was lying most of the day on his side, the other one came good after 2 weeks..... I put them inside in a small cage with only 1 low perch with a constant heat lamp..(although they were not "sick" I think it may help with pain?), water and food on the bottom of the cage..... Give it a few days and see how he goes...Good luck and keep us posted...

July 11, 201014 yr That sucks jodie.. I had the same thing happen to me aswell a few moths ago although mine just had a bad leg.. He was in pain i took him to the vet and she said to put him down so i did.. I hope it all works out.
July 12, 201014 yr Jodie.....if he is not eating you need to feed him A.S.A.P, or get him to an avain vet for a crop feed... I have recently hand raised an orphan budgie that was a bit younger than your one....mine was not fully feathered..... I made a feeding spoon from a teaspoon...just bashed it with a hammer, or just use a normal spoon for now.....Do you have some egg and biscuit, baby rice cereal..? It needs to be quite warm or he may not take it, mix it up and put it on the spoon and feed him... Put some millet and seed in the cage, he should be eating a little bit on his own..... Good luck! July 12, 201014 yr Keep him in with his parents, or put him where he can see his parents eating seed. You will find if you put him in with seed, he will pick and nibble at it. He looks old enough.
July 12, 201014 yr Author Keep him in with his parents, or put him where he can see his parents eating seed. You will find if you put him in with seed, he will pick and nibble at it. He looks old enough. he's about 6 weeks and learning still he can do it, but slowly. so he isn't really getting alot. I have managed to get a bit of regular seed into him, when I gave him eggfood with the seed in it he picked out the seeds. He also pooped while I was feeding him, It looked awsome ~ very healthy Edited July 12, 201014 yr by Jodie
