Posted July 11, 201015 yr Hi All. I have a pair in the breeding cage right now. It is a Grey-Green Hen X Lt. Green Spangle cock. They have two eggs(second arriving today) and 3 foster eggs. I bought both birds from an auction last month, both $15. The hen is a green ring, cock bird a black. I will follow the chicks(If I get any) progress and moults. I am hoping to keep any normal hens, or spangle cocks. Mike and Rose Rafferty. Grey-Green Hen. 2007 Mike and Rose Rafferty. Light-Green Spangle Cock. 2008.
July 11, 201015 yr Cool, I look forward to following this thread. Nice birds for $15 each. Any other pics of the hen perching?
July 12, 201015 yr Author She is a nice looking bird, and a bargain for $15. Thanks! Sorry the pictures won't turn. I am only planning to keep the hens, as I have way to many cock birds. Am I right in saying all normal hens will not be split?
July 12, 201015 yr Author Woops! I forgot hens cant be split spangle! Sorry That proves how good I am at genetics Will I get spangle hens and cocks, and normal hens and cocks?
July 12, 201015 yr Woops! I forgot hens cant be split spangle! Sorry That proves how good I am at genetics Will I get spangle hens and cocks, and normal hens and cocks? Yes, spangles and normal, both hens and cocks. Spangle is not gender related. And it is dominant, so nothing can be split spangle.
July 16, 201015 yr Author Gosh, I am feeling so blonde right now haha. Well, 3rd and 4th egg have arrived, she is juggling 7 eggs in nest. I will take some foster eggs out I think, they are clear.
August 1, 201015 yr Author First Chick arrived She ended up having 7 eggs in nest,1 fertile. I removed all her clear's and all clears of another pair , and the other pair have 3 fertile eggs, so I moved them into her nest (so she was sitting on 4 fertile eggs) and I let the albino pair go for another round. The other pair the 3 fertile eggs were taken from was an albino hen to yf grey split albino cock. The chick has black eyes, so I assuming that it is the grey-green and spangles chick. August 1, 201015 yr Author Hmm Interesting. Thanks Kaz . I have been looking for a table for them couldn't find them, so I just assumed they would be ino. So because the dad is a YF Grey Opaline Spangle, I have a chance of getting YF Grey's as well?

Yes...you have a chance for YF greys too Edited August 1, 201015 yr by KAZ

August 3, 201015 yr Eyes seem to be plum not black............................cinnamon, or recessive pied ??
August 3, 201015 yr Author Eyes seem to be plum not black............................cinnamon, or recessive pied ?? I considered plum also, and then I am just like O.O cinnamon or pied, I don't know parents (if it is the spangle and norm) lineage, so they may be split?
August 13, 201015 yr Author Chick is looking quite white based, fluff is coming through. Late ringing, but it has small feet and seems like a slow starter. I put the ring on today, it may slip off though. Changed bedding to seed mix. Piccies soon
August 14, 201015 yr Author Thanks rachelm Band is on still, and looks like it will stay. Chick is looking whiter by the day, and I am 95% it is a hen, what do you guys think? My first time sexing a chick. Eyes are still looking plum, or even redish. Can't see it much in photos though Here are some pictures:
August 14, 201015 yr Author So it could be a cinnamon ( or rec. pied) opaline hen? I am starting to wonder if it may be one of the eggs from the foster pair. YF Opaline Spangle Grey/ Albino X Albino hen. What do you think?

What do you think? i totally dont know but if it is a foster from / albino and albino do you know what your albino masks as you could have a df spangle if she masks spangle just a thought
August 14, 201015 yr Author I doubt it is a DF Spangle, I can see barring on her head (black pins coming through) Not sure if you can see it in the pictures.
August 14, 201015 yr yes i can see the black marks on the head as well so not DF spangle. Should see some colour on the wings as well soon, i agree with Dave with the Opaline look to the chick.
