I'm interesting in hearing views on having cement laid down for an aviary. Since I have to set up my aviary again now that have a house with a backyard I was thinking of putting it on cement. I'm after easy of maintenance and control of any pests, (mice) Is it better, worse, same??

I used to have my avairy on pavers, with sand inbetween them. Cleaning was a pain in the bum because all the seed and poo would get stuck in the gaps, and when i hosed it out with water it would wash everything in the gaps and not out. I also had issues with ants and mice... A few years ago I concreted the floor of my avairy/bird room and havn't looked back. Cleaning is a breeze... a sweep out and hose does the trick in 5 minutes, and my pest problem: we have occasional ants but not like before, and we havn't had mice since!!! I highly recommend it. My new flights are cement. I scrape it, sweep and then vacuum...twice a week if I can, less so if I am busy with work like now

 

when first laid. If you get a slab done that has smooth finish its easier to scrape

thanks guys I thought it was meant to be easier to clean and maintain which had be saying i want to cement it down first. Thanks for the link i did a search under cement not Concrete

 

have to also work out how to move the cage over as well but i'm sure we can manage with a few trailers.

 

I've had a quote given to me for about $300 for the cement and the work done for free which sounds great to me
