March 15, 200421 yr okay guys, now I am really confused, I do understand that different people have differing ideas on diets of birds, but I have read above that strawberries are dangerous for budgies, then I go to a sight that is recommended by this page, "Birds Online - Health and Diseases" to check out the recommended healthy fresh food and he recommends STRAWBERRIES?????? So what is right, or is it just that some birds are fussy, I do not want to feed Jacko something that I will regret.
March 15, 200421 yr everywhere i have read has said that strawberries and avacados are posionous so i wouldn't take the risk i was you,but if you want to it's only your budgies health at risk... could you put a link up for the page? i want to see that
March 26, 200520 yr I think if there is a difference of opinion then don't feed it,there is so much other stuff that we know is safe to feed them,it's just not worth the risk. Julie
March 27, 200520 yr i did a search once about strawberries and it looks to me like the main concern over strawberries is the amount of pesticides used on them. they go mushy very quickly and are a favourite treat to all kinds of bugs. as everyone else said it is probably best to avoid them if there is so much controversy. i use the birds-online site quite a lot actually and i have found that the info on there is very reliable. here is the link: http://www.birds-online.de/nahrung/obst_en.htm Edited March 27, 200520 yr by pixie25
March 27, 200520 yr also, here is another link about avian medicine in general. http://www.parrotparrot.com/birdhealth/diet.htm if you scroll down a bit the bit about strawberries is in the paragraph that starts 'fruits are high in sugar'. this site has a lot of information about all kinds of stuff, and there is more on diet if you take the time to look around the site hope this helps! the general opinion seems to be, avoid strawberries unless you are CERTAIN that they are ORGANIC. if you cant be sure then DO NOT feed them
