Is There A Specific Time Of Day When Budgies Lay Eggs?

Featured Replies

So, my niece was over here yesterday and I took her to see my budgies. I explained to what the nest boxes were and that we were hoping they would lay eggs soon. Then she asked me if the budgies will lay eggs in the morning or the night (well.... not in so many coherant words :D ). I said the morning as a guess but it got me thinking; is there a specific time of day when budgies lay or does it depend on the pair?

Thanks B)

No. They lay their eggs anytime they are ready to. Every bird is different. Not like chooks who lay in the mornings.

Every hen is different, and different things in the setup can make this vary. I find that my hens tend to lay very early morning or midday time.

I'm glad you asked this question because i was also curious as to whether or not there was a specific time of day budgies lay. :D

Last season I noticed a lot of the hens laying between 1-2 pm. That was early 2010, later 2009 they seemed to lay about 10-11am I noticed. Might have something to do with the heat ranges of the day? Every hen is different but I have noticed some trends.

Interesting :what:

Most of mine lay between 2 - 5 in the arvo. And they hatch in the mornings with some hatching later in the day.

Do they make a particular noise/sound when they lay? Like chickens do.

Or maybe the length of the days? Though I assume in summer it would be expected for eggs to be laid in the morning or evening rather than the middle of the day because of heat.......
