Yes I am using the cocktail of Sulpa AVS and megamix from Rob Marshall.

The boys droppings are bordline normal now. Very happy he is very alert jumping all over the place. So I think on the mend

BUT I have totally stopped wet food, NO MORE ever. I NO more soaking seed with codliver oil as I really think that is what caused it.

I was putting codliver oil, garlic oil and poly seed oil in the seed. which a few breeders do here BUT no more.

Totally going back to basics as you can over do things.

MY OPINION only.

BUT with the codliver all you can over dose on Vitamin D so I have been told.

I think Daz had a problem with this last year. not so much over dosing but codliver oil put fat around the heart or liver or something like that.

ANYWAY No more for me.

Good to hear that he is mending well! It's always a real scare when one of your best birds gets sick.

Thanks Nubbly, yep that was a big fright as he is the type of bird I am trying to breed.

I took this boy to the Riverina Diploma show with no tail and thinking they would disqualify im straight away but the 2 judges spent ages trying to decide if he had a tail or as it looked like he had a short one. But then they decided no.

I only took him along to see what they thought of him.

Later on after the judging I was talking to bruce Sheppard one of the judges and I thanked him for looking at him and he commented that he was the best bird there.

And it was good for me to bring him out as he may regrow his tail.

I want to put him over as many hens as possiable. But probably late this year or next year as I want him to have plenty of time to get over his illness.

Just read Daz's blog and I am with him no more but then it is cold here.

But what I think happened is there is this breeder here that is a naturapath, well anyway he told me to make up 5kg of seed and then mix 50ml of codliver oil, 5mls of poly oil and 7.5mls of garlic oil which I did.

But I asked him my concern of the codliver oil going ranist or off and he said he makes up 20kgs and it's good for 6 weeks as the garlic oil is a good preserver.

Well my opinion is I think mine went off.

But then it good be the wet food that caused it who knows.

But have have chucked out all remainder oiled seed. And there is no wet food in cages.

I am giving them their oats dry .

They are still getting egg and biscuit in finger drawers plus high energy vitamins.

My boy looks great today fully recovered I think.

woop sorrybout caps darl stupd com and im to lazy to fix :)

Well I've never used cod liver oil but have used Vetafarm's Breeding Aid (a mix of different plant oils) for all breeding pairs and chicks for oh.....um.... 10 yrs now with great results and no ill effects. It doesn't go off and really seems to help the breeding pairs with breeding condition and chickie feeding.

I haven't used cod liver oil for over 30 years, as a fish oil it is prone to going "off". I feed sunflower and safflower seed instead. Cheers Clearwing

:D I know Clearwing. This was Kevin C that does this plus a couple of more but after talking to Mick NO MORE.

:P

Fresh seed just like you no oils or anything.

Oh he is all good now, he is in the large hospital now with a light at one end.

I'm glade his okay , I'm not big on supplements for birds, just good seed and fresh fruit and veg.

But this is easy for me to say as I only have a small flock

I have a big flock but still baulk at oils in seed. Happenings like this with Splat and Dazs experience remind me why I dont use it.

Yes and I am never going to forget either, But I am mallowing towards giving them accasional wet food. Because I am now sure it was the oiled seed (cod liver)

Kaz does that whole egg food go off that you sent me as I still have half left.

I have been feeding Cod Liver oiled seed,to my budgies, for the last 10 winters, about 5 to 10 mils to 2kg

of seed & never suffered any ill affects.I mix it tonight * feed tomorrow.
