Bad Behaviour

Hi

Not sure if this is the right spot to post this question or not, but one of my birds has a very bad temper. She has constantly been a biter from the day I brought her home and now she is extremely aggressive toward the other female budgies. She no longer has contact with them. I was curious to know if she was to have any chicks would her behaviour became more aggresive and would/could she pass this behaviour on?

Hard to say. Females always bicker over space on perches...they are territorial. Anytime you see biting at each other on a perch its usually female to female behaviour. Worse when moulting...they get crankier.

Check your cage size and perching arrangements and see if that may be the cause.

She was fine as a baby with two other birds in the same cage. As she was a biter though we decided she might do better in the avairy, after placing her there (no nestboxes) she became a whole lot worse and she'd fly from perch to perch having a go at everyone. When I brought Blizzard I noticed that he was the only one she didn't pick on and they have since become quite the friends. The others male and female she's just a bully. None of the other birds have ever bickered or fought with each other. I have actually considered selling her as I really don't like the way she is so mean all the time. All other birds will handfeed including my two boys who were over one year and extremely shy when I got them. Leo was about 6 to 7 weeks and the only baby out of 3 that I couldn't handle due to all her biting, still can't handfeed her.

Based on what you have said she does seem to have a problem. I would not breed her if I was you :bump:

I am really leaning to selling her and buying a nice replacement problem is she is my daughter's bird.
