Hi All,

Last year I bred 4 long feather gene chicks Mum & Dad both look like they passed it to chick's so they got a "double dose".

My query is would anyone recommend breeding with following cock? He has improved a bit on looks since this picture. his feathers are still pretty messy but he is a nice looking bird otherwise and huge compared to my pet types. I bred his sister, not as badly affected with long feather and she bred nice chicks, (she was paired with smaller pet type cock) If I tried the same with this fellow do you think it would be worth the risk?

I am hoping it might reduce the effect of long feather gene but give me bigger sized chicks. Any advice welcome. :D

Yes I would breed with him but not to a pet style bird, mate him to a good neat showbird, he should breed some nice chicks cheers clearwing

Nah i disagree with clearwing - i wouldnt use a bird like that - too much flying material

Thank's Clearwing, I've been toying with the idea as his father is a very nice Olive Cinnamon, this one is bigger than Dad so I thought maybe worth a try. Just have to find the right hen now. :D

I would put him to a long (tall) hen if possible. Long flight is necessary to some degree in flights with large birds as it can help with maintaining proportional feather and look.

Thanks Dean,

I have a skyblue opaline spangle hen, from a show breeders cull, I haven't bred with yet. Don't know about that pairing.

Otherwise it would have to be pet/show hen.
