I would say cock but the photoes are

not lot of help. :P

Very young.....be very sure its really eating and not pretending to. Check for crop being full and a keelbone check and bottom check over next few days.

Not grey.......has purple cheek patches so I would say mauve.

and BOY.......... Banjo or Monte :P

Male! What a cutie... hope you remembered quarantine. Yes, make sure he's eating as he is very very young.

I dont know about anybody else but i have heard of pet shops that only want to take them that young. They say people want to hand tame them and they need to be that young. I try to leave mine with at least 1 parent for as long as i can. Has any one else heard of this.

Should be against the law to sell under 6 weeks.

I had a pet shop knock back my 8wk-12wk olds because they had been out of the nest to long. they liked them still digging in the corners. That was last year sometime though. I send the birds elsewhere now.

oh no im scared now!

so its really really young, how do you know this??? really only 4-5 weeks =[ i didnt realise

do you say he is really young as he still has black on its beek??

he is pretty big for his age then, as he is bigger than my other 2 (alfalfa and mortimer who are 6 months)

So i have to check:

-feeding well, and properly

-keep him warm

-keep him away from "others" (what does this mean exactly?) and how come?

wow really ... a good age to tame! excellent. i really wanted a good tame budgie

this is my chance i guess

GB !! can you please give me some tips on how to hand raise/ tame him??

"sitting him in your pocket and stuff when ever you get time sit him on your lap extra "

what do you mean by this? if i put him in my pocket wont he suffocate, and wont he be reluctant and scared

and try and get out, and if he sits on my lap should i pat him or ???

please please i need help, i desperate! :P

PS: i think he is somewhat tame already as when i got him out of the box

when i was home he hopped straight on my hand and did not fly around the room like a maniac

unlike my other birds, and he isnt scared of me at all?

PPS: my mum says if i dont put him in the cage with the other 2 then he wont get use to them

and when i do put him in they will pick on him? what should i do?

He is a sweety, but he does look like he is not feeding properly and that sign is that he looks a bit fluffed up. That would be why he is quite.

QUARANTINE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SEPERATE CAGE SEPERATE ROOM

He is a baby...................too young to have been sold.

MAKE SURE by feeling his crop that he has a full crop and isnt just pretending to eat.

He has that "hunched look" of a young baby who may not be eating well enough.

Check his bottom and poos.

Put a warm lamp by his cage.........dont turn it off during the night

oh no im scared now!

mate he is to young to fly around like a manic

give him 2 weeks and if hes still alive different story

he cant go in cage with others as hes sure not to have any amunity and will surley get sick

also they are more likeley to pick on him as hes too young

may i ask why you got a bird if you knew you wouldnt be aloud to quarinteen

also dont bother tamming him if hes going in with others as it will be a tottal waste of time

im not being mean mate but really

i dont think u though this one out

their are heaps of tamming tips if you want and you dont put them sofar in that they cant see you leave head out of pocket

hope all goes well

hes to young though for other birds thats regardless of quarenteening or not

no i did think it through..

i honestly did

even though he was cute and there i did seriously contemplate if i was able to care for another

it is just that he is so young, and i did not know he was only 4-5 weeks old

... this isnt my fault, i didnt know i swear :P

and that was only my mums thoughts (but then again wat does she know, i shouldnt have listened to her)

i have a spare cage which he is in now!

i knew that he could go in it it is just that my mum was complaining to me that he will not be accepted by the other

2 if i leave it too long

please dont think that i wasnt giving the best care for my budgies

i do give it my very best to see that they are givin fair and correct treatment

and so what your saying gb is that i can not taim hinm if he has cntact wit other birds??

how come? well i will keep them seperate i am serious about taming him

thanks for all your help guys :D

PS: i have a uv light for my turtle tank which creates warmth, would that be suitable to piut over his cage?

Edited by alpaca-boy

If your UV lamp puts out warmth it will be fine :P

Please keep him seperated from the others for at least 4 weeks. During this time you can work on taming him.

BUT essential you watch him close and feel his crop and keelbone and check his butt.

mate i was not saying this is your fault it defenently is not

as for what i said dont take me wrong

i know you carefor your birds

but i get anoyed with the fact that sometimes peronts dont listen to their children

and demand that all bird need to be put together

not saying your mum is like that but thisbird is to young to go in with other birds

whatch the heat is not to hot

just want him warm room temp sould be fine i dont think a lamp is needed myself but i could be wrong their

you dont want him dehidrating

food on ground of cage like i mean even if you need to cut a thin ceriel box to fit his cage or a flat dish with small edging just to keep seed in as big as you can and cover it with seed one cm deep

this way he can just put head down and eat when ever he likes

with out having to find dish

be like his nest box

infact it wouldnt be bad idea if you had a nest box to just put it in cage so he could sit in it at night

try giving him a boiled egg mashed with greated carrot and a weetbix mashed together no water just boil the egg ten mins great carrot and crush weet bix into it all stir till its a crumble

feed one tabble spoon full in morn take out before you go to school

boil some frozen mixed veggies as alturnitive that way less waste ot just thor them out a bit room temp serv

im sure he will be okay but if he doesnt have a full crop (you will feel the hard seeds in their like a little ball )

then let us know straight away

so someone can advice you

as for tameing no teachneach needed when that young

just lots of love hugs and handling pats rubs extra cheekrubs work good as nest mates would do this preening action near neack and cheak

goodluck

as kaz says 4 weeks should be okay quarenteen

let him get strenght rezistance to bugs

oh listen to kaz about lamp i just saw her post with that

shes right about the not eatting hunched look why i said if he lives

im sure he will if u listen to kaz advice

I had the same thing with quarantining my budgie. Now it is all right because I gave them a lecture on budgie illnesses and how long they can stay undetected. So now they won't let me get more because they're scared that they will pass on illnesses. I agree, a nest box or ice cream container. Feel the crop to see if he is eating. He wll need extra warmth.

oh he is very sweet. Such a cutie. I hope he grows big and strong for you AB. :P Sometimes we do know better than our parents. When i was a teenager and got my first job i saved up and bought some quails. I loved them so much. I noticed they weren't getting along and i told my mum i had to separate them. She said 'they'll sort it out', next morning i had 1 dead because 2 cocks had fought to death. :D

undecidedsfirstday6.jpg

It would be hard to resist this little face :D

He is sweet alright :P

When I was at the markets on the weekend they were selling birds of his age.

I was there when a man walk up and said he needed 2 more because he had lost some last week that he had bought off this guy.

When I told him that I belonged to a budgie club he asked me if I had any babies for sale :D , Nooooooooooo was my reply as I walk off :D

Hi Alpaca boy, cute little fellow you've got.

If you want him as a tame house bird. i.e. will sit on your shoulder, maybe learn to talk etc. It is better he is on his own, not becoming part of a "flock" with your others. As long as you give him plenty of company.

Check his seed dish for husks to see if he's really eating, if your not sure what others mean about his keel etc. he could starve if he's not cracking seed for himself.

If he's inside and covered at night he should be o.k for warmth. Try him with a bit of soft food, mine were into fresh corn cob at that age, a little bit of greens etc to see if he's been eating those as well.

Good luck with him and keep posting to see how you go. :D

Hi all !!

Banjo, as i have now named him is doing fantastically

i am taking best of care of him and he is no where near other birds, safe in his own cage

he is doing really well !! :D

i have watched him eat every night since i have had him allbe it 2 nights

bt he is DEFINATLEY EATING !! :D

IN FACT HE IS A LITTLE PIGGY

i give him his own plate fll of seed and he mnches away, and all that is left is the hsks of the seeds!

so i know for sre he knows how to crack a seed and eat

i have also watched him drink plenty of water, and he is not so flffed up any more

i am convinced though that as he is a baby he is still going to look fluffy

as all baby's have that soft fluffy appearance,

he is also more upright

i am keeping him warm at night by putting towel over cage

and we have a wood fire which heats the whole house

i am monitoring him very closely, as i dont want to loose him :D

the taming process is good, today i put my hand on the ground and he walked from

about a metre away and hopped on it! :P

what a cutie! he is now on my shoulder

and GB i am using your trick but instead i have bought him his own blankie

(polar fleece material) which he sits in on my lap!

all is good for now, i will keep you all posted on his progress

thanks for all your help

and for being concerned!

here is another picture of Banjo

more to come soon!

Great news :D Glad to hear all is going well and he is in good hands with you watching out for him :D

thanks KAZ !

i was really worried there for a while

had a fight with mum, convinced her though it would be better to put Banjo in his own cage

she came around after a while though :D

so he is a mauve normal right?
