Posted June 22, 201014 yr Dimitri is already eating from my hand. He loves his millet spray How do I get him to perch on my finger.. do I put my fingers near his feet or slowly take the millet further away from him making him jump on my hand? Also, I am still contemplating to clip or not to clip. I don't want him to start being scared of me after I do it.. but I don't really want to. Thanks

Thanks Hi TaniaZL, If Dimitri is not afraid of your hand that's a good start. You can try to gently nudge your finger in front of his legs (under his belly). He might step up onto your finger. Good luck

June 22, 201014 yr I never clipped Bruces wings, and it does take time and patience getting them confident enought to step on your finger, but keep trying and I'm sure you will be rewarded, just remember go at the birds pace never try to rush them. It is so easy to scare them and lose their trust.
January 17, 201114 yr Right from day one I watched and talked to my birds, within a week they were comfortable with the idea of me being close, then shortly they began to step (though cautiously) onto my finger. Budgies however are afraid of hands so its best to gently go about it-like they said push gently under the belly and next to their feet and they should learn to trust you. Also talk to them so they learn that you are comfortable aroud them because all animals feel better if you are more confident and patient with them
January 17, 201114 yr There are good articles in the FAQ section about Taming your Budgie and about Wing Clipping. Every home and situation is different and you have to look at the factors when you decide to clip their wings. I agree always have an expert clip their wings unless you know how because one wrong clip and your bird can bleed to death and it is very hard to stop a bleeding wing or if you damage the wing.
