today crocked toe has a new sister and its being fed so the mummy bird just needed some time

im not sure if i should put crocked toe back down or leave things as their not broke :)

regardless thats three for this clutch so far one died pipped to early and two to go :P

so its a great result for 7 eggs all left to chill for more than 6 hours or more :) lucky one nest had infertile s this is why i leave them sit rather than toss eggs for them to start new round you nevr know when you may need a mummy

i usually just take one egg away and replace with a chick due on that time from a nest of 4 or more this leaves three spots for others if i need :P

little toe has three living siblings and him/herself

here is little toe and his/her clutch buddys

not all related to him/her

Good on you GB and it's great to see the kids involved :D

sky violet X sky violet should give you:

25% sky normal

50% sky violet (sf) ('cobalts' visually but we know they are skys!)

25% sky violet (df) ('visual violets')

cheers dean :(

oh cool does this then mean any df sky violet chicks will give all violet chicks when breed ???

is that how it works dean i thought i read somewhere it did but un sure or do you need to put the df sky to a cobalt for that ?

sorry to bother you but you are very knowledgeable on the genetics side of things :sadsorry:

Yes any double factor violets will produce all single factors when placed with non-violet partners. If you have a DF sky violet, put it to a mauve :sadsorry: 100% SF violet cobalts (visual violets) will be produced :(

For that reason I would say the most valuable violets you can ever have are Double factor violet skies. Put them to skies and you get lovely coloured 'cobalts' (sf violet skies, much prettier in colour than 'normal' cobalts) and if you put them to sky violets, double factor sky's are a much silkier looking 'visual violet' than single factor violet cobalts. There is still nothing more POW than a double factor violet cobalt, but as far as usefulness goes I think sky's are much more valuable since you dont have the variable of the dark factor to confuse you as to whether you are looking at normals, violets or double factor violets since its only the violet that will change the shade of the chicks (if you pair sky to sky as far as violet goes).

rach you have all the needs to achieve birds like him if not better ,..true

just need to pair them right

as you could also end up with **** if you dont use what you have in the way needed

I'd be over the moon if I bred a chick like him. Next club meeting is a lesson in pairing. Can't wait.

just be careful everyone pairs for diffrent reasons and some times the double up on faults as the birds are both good :P

yes listen take it in but always pair your birds to their positives never the negitives

no matter how good a bird is if the bird you want to pair it to has same one id not pair it on negitive can stick in a flock for ages

enjoy it though you will learn some valuable things from rod and tony
