Grey Opaline Hen X ?

third pairing

okay so i have a hen i breed

shes possibly split to receive pied but wont find this out unless put to a recessive pied cock

just happened i was gifted a fantastic looking rec pied cock bird hes a o6 boy but lots of fire still i was told

the catch is

we dont know if hes df dom or

recessive pied

now before you all go and do the look at the eyes thing on me (which i know )

this cock bird has fathered

5 dom pied chicks and a normal in the one clutch

so i thought this may be a good pairring to share with you all

as i myself have no clue as to whats going to pop out

by rights

if hes recessive pied and shes not split to rec pied

then

all chicks should be normal split rec pied chicks

i think hes Opaline so all chicks will be Opaline

if hes df dompied not rec then half chicks will be dom pied and half normal thats provided hes not split rec pied and mums not split rec pied

if they both are split rec pied then chances are of half chicks being rec pied

at least one will be anyhow i will let this pair do two rounds also to be certain :)

now if dad is dom / rec and mum is opaline / rec pied

i will get

half rec pieds , dom pied and normal

and if hes df dom pied / rec pieds and shes split rec pied

i have no clue what to expect

are you lost yet as i am  :nest:

well if i got anything wrong or you think you may want to try guess out come before chicks com

then go for it

will be interesting what comes of this and who was closest with their guess

from what i know and chicks i know hes had im clue less :P

woops pics may help

okay re reading this i got it wrong

df dom all chicks will be dom pied i ment to say if hes single factor dom pied

:nest:

by the way i noticed alot of my birds dont look to have iris rings

they do exept this weired cock whom doesnt know hes a recessive pied if his chick out come is anything to go by

he thinks hes a dom :P i cant wait to find out what he truley is

But he is a dom pied isnt he. What did you pair him up with before when you got all the dom pied chicks ? One of the parents had to be dom pied..........he's not recessive.

well thats the thing kaz thats why im confused

when i was given him i was told he was df dom well thats what he was brought as

but then as not all his chicks were dom they decided they didnt want him anymore as he produced a normal their for could not be df dom

i think his partner was a light green opaline cinnamon i think but dont know for certain but i do know he produced a opaline grey green dom pied /blue with someone ??? i was told the light green opaline but really i dont know thats just what i was told but why is he got no iris rings as that blows every body's theory's out the water in one go

bang

no more

its not df dom its rec pieds on here ever ever again if thats the fact so..... :nest:

im going to breed him and see what happens

i do hope hes a df dom

but then again hes a nice rec pied if hes that its been doing my head in so time to find out :P:wacko:

He cannot produce dom pieds if he is recessive.

this cock bird has fathered 5 dom pied chicks and a normal in the one clutch
breeding4.jpgtherefore since he produced a normal and dom pieds that makes him SF dom pied, as all these expectations percentages are taken over around ten clutches and the percentages arent based on one only clutch.

He cannot produce dom pieds if he is recessive.

yes i know thats why i want to see what he is

remembering i have never breed this bird myself

im going off information from the previous breeder

but he has no iris rings and their for to me must be rec pied in all the knowledge i have consumed over time

basically

i cant understand why they told me hes rec pied or dom they dont know which but that they dont belive hes df dom as hes had one normal chick

i dont have full information and well a gift is a gift im not about to go digging to deeply

im just going to breed him and get to bottom myself

if by truth he has breed doms

yes you are right he is just that

if by chance he doesnt produce dom pieds then well i will no to discount what i was told

and that he is indeed recessive as his eyes would sugest

 i forgot about him

well why do we all keep telling everyone that their bird is not dom or df dom unless their got iris rings

maybe this practice should stop if where to know theirs possibility of it being true :nest:

oh i really do hope hes a dom pied

i dont belive that the person i recived him off would give me the b u m b s steer but then he was stumped by it so

didnt want to chance rec pied getting into his doms :P hope hes dom i really do

we will see from this pairing wont we

thats the whole idea of this pairing

okay

so with much descution with various people

it has been decided that

this cock is infact a combination pied

thats a rec pied domanint pied all on the one bird no splits but for opaline :)

he has dominant pied markings but is in actual fact a rec pied bird

his eyes are plumb and he gives off dom chicks in single factor so is single factor dom pied ,rec pied and as hes rec pied all chicks will be / rec pied weather they are dom pied or not

so this is how i can find out if this what has been for now decided is true :)

well why do we all keep telling everyone that their bird is not dom or df dom unless their got iris rings

we dont :) We ask about iris rings as a means of helping work out a bird, but as iris rings can be a little hit and miss in certain birds we dont use that only as the deciding factor. Its in combination with other things, markings etc.

yes i know but most time the deciding factor seems to be weather theirs iris rings or not

i relize many other things come into play

but think we may all get to lean something from this pairing

or maybe ill just look silly either way weve learnt lol

:)

Hens do silly things........one hen I had opened every fertile egg as the chick pipped and I lost all bar one. Second chance.......she had 8 fertile eggs and at the point of hatching the first one she decided to bury all of the eggs deep in the nestbox materials thereby making them go cold and all chicks were dead in shell. She has begun to lay again and I will be transferring her eggs.

What a bimbo of a hen mine was.

Hope you have better luck with yours GB :laughter:

it was her first ever clutch so im just lucky she had 7 eggs 3 were definitely fertile but were cold for i don't know how long so fingers cross she only just started sitting before she got frightened so i may be lucky with 4 of them

  • Author

well im pretty certain i got 3 at least still alive

i must have got to them in time

the hen thats on them had two her own fertile and 6 infertile so

so that gives a nice amount in her nest

i will wait a tad longer before removing any of the other eggs from the nest

incase they to are fertile as few were freash layed :(

okay

finally an update on this pair

well

all eggs were transpered and out of them 6 out of seven fertile and still incubating 4

yes yippy two have hatched :D

one little one strugled as all these eggs were slow developers as they got chilled so i had to watch very close for due date then wait a day or to and if egg not hatched had to craddle egg to see inside what was going on this was very hard but with my new budgie book by dr what ever his name is

i was able to antisipate each hatchlings stages and save the first two chicks from a hatching death

as these chicks were weaked with the chilling of the egg

development was interupted a tad ending in egg sacks still not finished yet chick trying to hatch and urinating in egg and this in turn poisioning themselfs or sufficating not sure which

anyway i saved first one with help of a really good first time mother :D

she fed chick straight up and kept it warm and while it was half in shell still eatting up its one day left of supplyed yoke sac

i was very impresed it lived she then took rest of egg off herself

the next chick was in diffrent nest and not so strong when hatched itssac was totally gone but it had poo surounding it when i helpped him /her out

i put under hen to warm up and be fed but this hen also first time mum didnot feed it so i feed it some cream out fridge on tooth pick

stuck it back

then it still was not fed 4 hours later so i took it and fed it farrex and again put back

then it was still not fed i rang kaz for some idea tossing of whom to put her under out of my 4 hens

then fed her and put under designated hen

crossed finger set alarm for 6 am to look if was fed

i fed it last at 1200 am

as im c r a p iset my alarm wrong and awoke at 11 am

i jumped up quicker than anything and ran into front room to find .............................

the little chick still kicking yet still not fed :( however alot stronger and it cheeped

yeah it cheeped so i put in nest above with hen who had other 4 chicks all day apart and she fed him her straight way

:P:D :party0011:
