Posted May 1, 200520 yr Birdie seems to be Sick ive taken him away from the other birds and put him in his own cage in my room. Hes been getting the premium pampering now but still no improvements. He just site at the back corner of the cage all puffed up and scrappy looking almost looking exactly the same as when he was found loose last year i trust NONE of the avian vets within 50 km of here and the regular pet vets just wont deal with birds. Any help on what i can do thet might help him get better?
May 1, 200520 yr Dreamz, my heartfelt advice is, even if you dont trust avain vets, take your little bird anyway. Never close doors, okay ? That aside, keep him warm, NOT hot, just warm, keep him shaded, avoid bright light. Dont try and handle him, let him rest. Let him have access to his favourite diet, nothing extra and 'special'. Keep him quiet, but have, during the day, soft, quiet easy listening music playing. A single drop of arnica liquid (available from good health stores) in his water will ease any pain or distress he may be going through. Birds are funy creatures, when they have had enough, they will go, but cos yur bird is off colour, dosent mean he's had enough. okay? Keep calm, keep your bird calm and quiet and warm, and get that vet in attendance. Please keep us updated how the litle guy gets on. Blessings. Anne.
May 1, 200520 yr yeah you really should take your bird to the vets if you dont like their diagnosis or opinion then you dont have to follow it although im pretty sure they would know what hey are on about, how come you dont trust them anyway?
May 2, 200520 yr You should take your bird to an avian vet. AT least then you can find out what's wrong with him. Keep him warm and comfy. Hope he gets better soon!
May 2, 200520 yr thats the thing ... i want to take him to a vets but the only good one i know of is over 2 1/2 hrs away and i dont wanna stress the poor guy out in the car the vets around here know nothing and they dont even look at the bird just send you off with a bill saying you bird will be fin just to get you out of their office Birdie actually does seem to be looking better, hes chirping and playing with his toy and his poops are not leaving a watery mark on the paper Nothing special in his food just some of his conditioning food but as usual - Pro Mega Hemp seeds, Tropicana egg granual pellets, Budgie seed and his carrots Anything wrong witht thais? all the birds have been getting it for quite a while now and its all suposed to be really good for them Edited May 2, 200520 yr by BrokenDreamz
May 2, 200520 yr I still think that a vet would give medicine and tell you what's wrong. I'd still take him to the vet. The diet sounds really good! Loads of variety.
May 2, 200520 yr What was he doing the day before you noticed he was fluffed up? Was he out flying around where he could have gotten into something he wasn't supposed to? That could mean anything, from chewing on the fabric of your lampshade to eating an "iffy" plant, to gnawing on a candle, or being exposed to breathing in any cleaning agents that may have been in use. Is it possible any fresh food was slightly "off" ? Were the windows open to where he was exposed to colder air than he's used to? Think back to what he was doing and how he was acting and you may be able to tell what prompted his change in behavior. A vet check is a good idea, I know you are far from any, but call them first and they may be able to give you better advice over the phone on what to try or they may tell you to bring him in. In the meantime, keep him warm and partially cover his cage so he can sleep if he wants to.
