Posted May 1, 200520 yr Here I'm going to put the photos of the babies of Hadryel & Scar. As some of you know, Hadryel attacked his babies (he was an excepcional father with his first chicks las t summer) when they were 6, 4 and 2 days respectively, and they were damaged considerably: The oldest has his inferior beak broken (but now is quite good); the second chick has a hurt on forehead and one of his fingers was amputated; and the youngest hasn't cere, his beak is growing too recte, and he doesn't grow properly: is too small for his age. So, Hadryel was put in another cage, and Scarface is breeding her chicks alone. She is a very good mather. A photo of the pair the first day: in this photo they've just put into the breeding cage, on March, 16. The first chick was born on April, 13. 24-04-05 29-04-05 Chicks in the nest. "Pellej?n", 17 days. "Gajito", 15 days. "Chispita", 13 days. Scar in the breeding cage/box, with her nest, the same day. Edited May 1, 200520 yr by Javi_F.C.
May 1, 200520 yr Great photos - I love Scar - she's a very pretty bird. Hopefully she will be able to manage bringing up the chicks alone. I am glad they seem to be mending nicely. Do you have food very close to her nest box so she does not have to go far to eat, or do you put food in the box for her?
May 1, 200520 yr Hi Rain!! This is the breeding cage: the food recipe is on the right, the water recipe on left. Inside there is a little recipe with egg food, and the green food is put inside. Scar loves spinach and carrots, and I prepare her fauvorite food each day. In the mixture of seeds I add 40-50% of "alpiste" (canary seed), because this seed has more protein, and is low in fats.
May 1, 200520 yr Javi_F.C. those are some pretty birds. What I really wanted to know was how you hollowed out the piece of birch tree and made it into a nest. A HUGE one fell in the woods behind my house over the winter and I could cut that thing up and make a TON of nest out of it.
May 2, 200520 yr Beautiful birds! Glad the babies are healing well. Scarface really looks like she's enjoying that carrot!
May 2, 200520 yr That is a nice breeding cage. And a really neat idea for a nesting box. Mine used to go through about three times their normal intake of fresh food when they were breeding, especially spinach. Scarface looks like she really enjoys it. What do the babies names mean?
May 2, 200520 yr Im glad the babies are healing well, and i love your breedingcage, its very nice. Also scareface is a very pretty mother I also like the nesting box (aka tree) (Laughing out loud) goodluck and keep us updated
May 2, 200520 yr Your babies sound to have gone through a tough time there. Hope they continue to improve. Julie
May 2, 200520 yr The breeding cage was made by myself, and the nest was bought in a pet shop. Here, some new pics: "Pellej?n" means skin, in diminutive. It seems that it will be a male, and his variety is sky blue opaline dilute. "Gajito" means a little part of a mandarine fruit. I think it will be a female, she is very nervous. It seems her variety is sky blue opaline withewing. Chispita means very small. Because he/she is very small, I can't say about his/her sex or variety. Their names are provisional.
June 18, 200520 yr Great pics . Well done mum on the great job :sport: good luck and keep us posted with the pics .
