Hi iam, new to keeping budgies and also new to the site so go easy on me lol!!

I recently decided to purchase budgies,so looking in local papers and local internet searches i found a seller with 2 budgies and a cage.I phoned the lady and went to view them. She said they were fairly tame birds and were femal and male.I know they are because i did a fair bit of reading up on budgie before i decided to get any.

I bought the 2 budgies and large cage with all accories for £10 !!

When i got them home i decided to clean them out,was this correct thng to do?

They flew around the room and landed on my lamp shade. It took me ages to get the birds back in the cage once it had been cleaned,i had to catch them. Both birds bit me hard when i did this.

Really i just need some general help on keeping them and help trying or attempting to taim them, where do i start???

Thnks

Thanks for your reply, ver useful that article. is there any other tips you could suggest?

cheers

I'd recomend going through the faq's. There are heaps of useful topics there. I found the best way to get started was to read through so many topics. It's often the best way and then ask specific questions that arrise from this reading.

If I had to give one tip regarding taming a new budgie, I'd say take it slow at work at their pace not yours. It takes a lot of time to build their trust but you can loose it in an instant but grabbing them or doing something they perceive as a threat. So, to begin with... cage in a quiet place until they settle in, then cage somewhere where you spend time (loungeroom/study), lots of talking to them... then slow and steady with your hand in the cage building up to getting them to step up on you... the list goes on but I've mummbled enough. This should get you started... read, read, read and ask plenty of questions.
