June 20, 201015 yr Author As promised here a a few photos of my babies, This nest has 6 babies, parents are sky blue hen and father my violet I won the violet class at the shield last year and he is the father of the violets babies at the start of this thread but different sky hen. the babies are over 2 nest 2 in this nest the pink ones. the other two with down are from another nest and this is the other 4, the last one hatched yesterday, I took the picture when it was a hour old. There are 4 from this nest, there are 2 left here which are the youngest and 2 in the nest above, parents are a light green cinn spangle hen out of the violet hen and my wow bird and the cock is a cinn grey green (watson breeding) both birds. The other babies in the photo above are from 2 nest , 2 babies the sky spangle and the grey cin spangle ate from my grey cock bird full brother to hen above and the violet cock above and the hen is from G Tonkin sky cock and the grand daughter of my violet hen ( hen hen died after laying 6 eggs and silly me saved the first 2 fertile ones and threw the other 4 away. She ruptured herself. poor litle girl. The grey spangle is looking quite nice today. AND the other baby is a green oplaine I think is from my dark green spangle hen out of the yellow df spangle cock and the violet hen and the cock is a sky cock from Geoff which is A Rowe bloodline. My final nest with babies is 4 grey green cinnamons, 2 are opalines. This is dad a grey green on loan from Geoff, ( he is moulting as I have had him in a cage on his own so now I am waiting for him to come into condition to use him again. and this is mum a cinnamon opaline violet full sister to the violet, grey and the 2 light green cinn spangle above. She has raised these babies by herself, she had 3 babies up to a week ago but I had to put her youngest back because of the other hen decided to pluck all her babies. So she will be getting a good rest now. and 2 of her babies and here is an update of a couple of the older babies . I have 28 babies to date. Going to put some pairs down soon.

June 21, 201015 yr Author Hey splat, those chicks look good, glad the cock has done well for you. I won't need him this year so pair him up again after the moult Cheers ClearwingI really don't know who to put him to because he is an outcross, but I don't want to put him with that hen again because I got all cinnamon. You will have to help me pick Clearwing. PLUS the hen is heavily flecked and he has a bit of flecking , maybe I shouldn't of paired them together as I have enforced the flecking becaue I have notice the 2 cinn opalines are going to be flecked too. I think. So need to picture a hen that is not flecked, what about one of yours that you loaned me a a couple of weeks ago. I could pair him to one of them and have some outcrosses next year. What do you think. Or should I put him with one of the yellow Df spangle hens BUT then those 2 hens need to come back into my line this year becaus ethey have been outcrossed twice already.Cheers Julienice chicks hun im glad i read somewhere you are keeping all birds this year good decision Hi GB yes , that is my plan. From experience some of my birds blossom late. you have one of them . So I am going to wait and see how they turn out this time Edited June 21, 201015 yr by splat

June 22, 201015 yr Author Thanks Taboo. Here is an update on 2 babies, These two are from the grey cock and the sky spangle hen that died. The eggs were fostered to a cage with one babies but the hen plucked down out and then feathers, blood everywhere, so they have been in a new fostercage for a week now and looking great. Grey cinnamon spangle Sky spangle I really wish I didn't through the other 4 eggs away now
June 22, 201015 yr Your chicks all seem to have great feather. long masks, and wide brows......see you at the nationals with them real soon mate
June 22, 201015 yr Author Thanks Kaz but I don't think you will see me at any Nationals anytime soon, the competion at our shield for the Nationals is really tough. I have'nt bred anything outstanding this year so far except that cinnamon opaline violet hen but she will be heavily flecked, even these babies are looking like they will be flecked too. BUT we can all aim for it. BUT the best part about my birds is that I have have stud going now as everything is related and they all seem to have the same type head and feather. so it can only get better, I hope Edited June 22, 201015 yr by splat

June 29, 201014 yr Author Hi all , I have this crazy hen, well not crazy just proective I guess but she is drivine me nuts. She had 6 babies to my violet and she is raising 3 of thm on her own. She started off fine but then after ringing the last baby she has gone crazy. Every time I go to put wet food in or top up seed jar or replace water she jumps on the wire and tries to attack me. When I put the wet food in I have to wear thick woolen gloves and make sure my thick jumper has covered my wrist because when I put my arm in she attacks and bites gripping hold of my finger or hand, ( like I reckon if I shaked my hand hard she would still have a good grip on me she is horriable. I will take a photo tomorrow of her attacking at the wire .(she waits for me.) Greg said that's good she is a good mum but really get real I think that is over doing it Has anyone else have a hen like this. I have had a couple last year but it was the in the family but all they did was try to bite me then go back into the nest BUT this hen just keeps biting. I can't even check out the babies because she is a nut case, all I do is quickly look in and that's the job down. I have to clean the nest out soon god help me
