Splats Breeding Season To Date

Featured Replies

Thanks GB, I have to say it is about time ;) Going on my results I think maybe I will not start breeding until this time next year but then I would only get one round before it gets to hot but then breeding earlier has bee a waist of my time and most of the birds. So I have some thinking to do

well makes more sence to do only one round at end of year and two at start to me anyways

start being end feb to start July last bubys out

personally i just pair up the birds as they are ready

thats good mate im very happy for you

im afraid my luck is not as good with your hen

she must of came off her eggs and two were dead in shell

i took last one away and gave her a chick to raise from the yf violet clutch same age as her one should be shes feeding it well

i put the last egg under my /ino cocks hen she has clear eggs due today and tomorrow which is when this eggs due fingers crossed i get just one

although by rights i should have let her just lay in flight its first time ive put in cabinet on account a hen was laying and mating in flight

next time i wont be to fast to do it

as not worth it for bird and in end nothing came from it

lesson learn t

if /ino hatches chick i will return it to her other wise i will return the other chick to its original nest and let her fly

That's a pity Gb, but seems they used her above and beyound I would let her fly. You said the young they have are about 2 months old so more than likely they used all that time. It's a pity you don't get your chance at breeding her but at least those eggs were fertile, that's a start.

So it's your choice but I wouldn't let her raise any young at the moment because she probably has done her share this year already.

I would give her another break for a couple of weeks and put her down again but then take the eggs off her as she lays them and put them under a foster parent. You could get 10 eggs this way, but don't let her raise them.

well then i will remove the chick today its only two days been with her

as for resting her

i wont put her up this year again she can rest till next year

rest is a rest and i dont like taking eggs unless the hen is a *****

fingers crossed the last egg hatches tomorrow will tell if it does then i will move it to my albinos nest she has only two babys and is use-to raising 5

I have 2 more new chicks today, that is the total of 22 I think and still more to hatch :) .

I from my violet cock and the sky hen

1 from light green cock and grey oop spangle hen

I put 2 more down today.

nest 19 Violet cock younger brother of my good one, and cocbalt spangle hen (mother of my white df spangles and the hen in my aviatar) crossing my fingers. I was saving her for my yellow df spangle both parents of the whites birds and sky cinn sp hen and i was hoping to breed more but he is busy in a different nest for the time being.

nest 9, white Df spangle and dk green spangle I know the colours aren't great thing plus sp and df, I know I will get bad suffusion but I really want to see what happens with these 2 because they both have the same father (yellow DF sp) and different mums. I need to bring the them both back into the line this year. Anyway I thought I would have a play and see what happens.

I have a couple more to put down tomorrow.

Will try and get some photos too.

I have photos of the Lutino and Clearbody hens.

Clearbody hen she has a great head and she is a big bird. She has a very pale light green body instaed of yellow.

She probably is a mop she is 4 weeks in a couple of days.

This is her last week

cementing015.jpg

You can see how much bigger she is than the lutino who is older

yellow face opaline cobalt

shed049.jpg

I think violet green in colour not sure yet but any way a oplaine

shed052.jpg

This one is the same colour as above and opaline too.

shed051.jpg

I love this hen but she moulted out heavily flecked but will be very handy, the violet cock is her dad

shed061.jpg

This is the hen aboth full sister, you can see her dad in here

shed060.jpg

This sky hen I think will be nice too the violet cock is her dad too but different mum

shed062.jpg

This grey green is from my iffy hen , I think he will be quite nice he has a brother who is cinnamon green and

he is better than this one

shed058.jpg

Light green opaline, father is nice bird of Geoff's that he loaned me, he needs moore directional feather

I think but he is a outcross so I will see what happens next year when I put him back to my line.

shed059.jpg

I have bred a lot of cinnamons this year, and as you can see a lot of flecking too so annoying.

:)

Looking good as always Splat... Any idea what causes the flecking? Are certain mutations more likely to be flecked than others?

Very very nice Splat! I love the opaline cobalt spangle. The others too are very very nice!

Lovely results Splat. I love your violet, even with the flecking. I'm a sucker for Violets.. They are all great though..

Thanks everyone, they are just okay. well okay they are nice but I haven't bred that wow bird this year, I think I outcrossed to much, I am a bit dissappointed.

Nubbly Geoff (Clearwing) Liked that one too, Jimmy I am not sure but the dad is lightly flecked so I put him with a clean capped hen but it didn't seem to work. Opalines seem to be flecked more than normals.

I like your Grey green, the others are sweet too :)

well mate them their chicks all look good to me yep yep yep sure does ....lol

good going :)

And I am happy as Larry because my white Df spangle has 7 fertile eggs and so far 4 have hatched.

He is with a violet spangle and I am expecting someting good, fingers crossed.

I was a bit dissapointed this year because I showed him to much and up until this nest I only got one fertile egg from 2 different nest and the 2 chicks were ordinary but they were outcrosses.

But this nest is he has now is in the line. so really excited

Lovely feather on these babies Splat and long masks too :D

Thanks Kaz, I just hope they turn out nice, so far they look okay. I haven't bred that winner this year because I outcrossed to much.

But next year I hope to make up for this.

How have your babies moulted out, the ones from the white boy.
