Posted May 1, 200520 yr  After waiting over 2 years, I have finally had 2 eggs hatch, they are just so tiny and dare I say it ?? SO UGLY!!! 2 more left to hatch. okay, I am as happy as a pig in poo so to speak, so , what next-----Obviously no touching, no more peeking for a while, or, would it be in their best interest to keep an eye on things. I just dont want to stuff anything up after getting this far.
May 1, 200520 yr YAY celebrate (Laughing out loud) so what colour are the parents? I always check mine as mine are in an avairy when they breed. But cage may be dif?? i dont know...maybe just peek but no hands. if you get what i mean... goodluck with the babies, post some piccies of mummy and daddy if you can!!
May 1, 200520 yr Oh! Congratulations!!! I peek all the time but i also have very tolerant birds. I think peeking once or twice a day is good just to make sure things are running smoothly. You can handle them if you would like after they're completely covered in fluff.
May 1, 200520 yr :(Laughing out loud): :(Laughing out loud): :(Laughing out loud): Trust you to say something like that Julie!
May 1, 200520 yr cooolll! congrats!!! By putting a male and female togeather, is it that they will mate no matter the type of place they live in? even if there cage dont have a nest? B
May 1, 200520 yr dare I say it ?? SO UGLY There are two responses to this statement: 1. Yeah - they kind of look like miniature turkey vultures - only WORSE!! 2. Did you see what YOU looked like when first born? Well obviously you didn't but raging hormones must be what gets parents through the first few days - because by any stretch of the imagination - new borns of mose species are not eggxactly pretty. Yeah - gentle peeking a couple of times a day and gentle handling for a very few seconds when they are covered with down followed by straight back to the box. When they are standing - you can handle them a little more and start to perch them on a finger (with a hand cupped under to catch). This is like around 3-4 weeks.

This photo I took when she had just started to nest. I bought her as a mature bird because she had apparently proven her-self as a breeder, & seems like I made the right decision.

Will try & get photos each day so I can see the progress. :sport:
May 1, 200520 yr Congratulations I hope to fell the same excitement in 7 days when my first egg is due to hatch. This is my first clutch as well. I peek in 2-3 times a day when mom and dad are out just to check on things and you should continue to do so after they have hatched to make sure they are growing and being fed. By putting a male and female togeather, is it that they will mate no matter the type of place they live in? even if there cage dont have a nest? No that's not true. Sometimes the female doesn't like the male you put in with her and sometimes the male doesn't like the female. Also certian conditions need to be met before they will be, for example abundance of food. In AUS. they go to nest after big rains because they know by the time the eggs hatch there will be a lot of fresh new seeds and food to eat and feed to the young. Also more daylight hours then dark is needed so they feel it's late spring/summer for them to nest. Also most places say they wont nest with out a nest boxes but sometimes they lay eggs. I've seen a egg on the bottom of the budgie cages a few times but they keep the males and females apart so it's not fertile and the hens don't sit on it anyways.
May 2, 200520 yr ...I apologise for the size of it, should have made it smaller, will do so next time. Will try & get photos each day so I can see the progress. :sport: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Please make this one smaller or it will need to be removed. She does look very content in there, doesn't she?

May 2, 200520 yr If your resizing it on photobucket the try making it 75% first and if that's too big try 50%. I find 25% is way to little. And those little babies are so cute! I think they're the most lovely things in the world! Edited May 2, 200520 yr by Bea

I find 25% is way to little. :glare: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> well that all depends on the size of the original image. could be a big difference if you compare a picture from a 1mega pixel camera to a 5mp one.

Then when i did re-size it was too small (Laughing out loud), I cant win!! My camera is a 3.2 mega pixs. I tried to resize through the cam. pro. which is where i think i made the mistake which then came out too small.
May 3, 200520 yr Oh, please post more pictures, if you upload them onto photobucket and give me the link i'll resize them for you if you like.
May 3, 200520 yr Oh, please post more pictures, if you upload them onto photobucket and give me the link i'll resize them for you if you like. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks so much Bea, I think I have it right now, I know how to re-size from photo-bucket, next time I post I'll check it on a preview first, really dont want to upset the "Powers that Be", I value this site for advise too much to do that. Am still waiting for the other 2 eggs to hatch, seems as if they are taking too long, would this be right or is it normal? :blow:
May 3, 200520 yr Well i have a program that resizes to just the right size, it doesn't take long either so it wouldn't be any bother. Feel free to PM if you want me to do this for you. About your eggs, if this is your hens first batch then slight delays on eggs aren't uncommon.
May 3, 200520 yr Aww they are so cute You can download Irfanview (www.irfanview.com) and when you go to image, then resize resample you can get it down to 400pixels by about 375, which is a size that will fit on the forum
May 3, 200520 yr Or get Picasa 2 from google. You can resize it to 450 x something then. Just the right size!
May 3, 200520 yr hey Bev mum is a very nice colour, shes a show bird right?? I love little show budgie babies, they are so fat and cute when they grow up a bit!
May 3, 200520 yr hey Bev mum is a very nice colour, shes a show bird right?? I love little show budgie babies, they are so fat and cute when they grow up a bit! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, she isnt a show bird, I've never considered showing as such, I have bought most of mine from a breeder who does show, & he has the most magnificent birds. Dad is a beautiful big bright green boy & if you saw the photos of both of them she is an olive. I do have another hen who is huge, again, bright green, but, (Laughing out loud), all she wants to do is sleep, she sleeps anywhere, in a nesting box, on a perch, in the feed tin, but she is very young so i think she may grow out of it, i hope.
May 4, 200520 yr Hi Bev it's me and congrats again the photos are lovely I just think they are gorgeous! I'm sorry i just love them. Keep an eye on them, and you should see what looks like milk in there crop (crop milk). Do you know when number 3 and 4 eggs where layed? More picks please and keep us posted.
May 6, 200520 yr :blow: Not sure when the other 2 were laid exactly Lady, but it was only 2 or 3 days after the 1st two, still havent hatched, but Mum still seems to be sitting on them, altho she is real busy, & Dad as well, Hope this picture. turns out, just looked so gorgeous, & neither have any objection to me peeking & taking photos.
