Posted May 1, 200520 yr I thought budgies couldn't choke on string, it just seemed like common sense since I've seen a ton of bird toys with string on them, and the string nest bedding, and there feathers even, in a way, are made of string. But I've asked some people who have had much experience with budgies in the past, if a budgie could choke on string. One said they don't really know, one said its possible. And the other said they can. I thought this would be a common sense thing!!! But can someone please tell me, all I wanted to do was tie string onto a food ball and hang it.
May 1, 200520 yr My birds like to preen toys with string. They don't eat it, but you will need to watch your bird to see if they do or not. There was a thread about a bird dying from crop impaction due to ingesting string, but it wasn't a budgie. It can happen. I would think using string to hang something with would be fine. If your bird fiddles with the string too much, you can always take it out if you are worried.
May 1, 200520 yr I think they can choke a bit if they get a little bit of fluff stuck in their throat. But no more than if they got a husk caught at the back of their throat.
