Posted May 4, 201015 yr http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b401/b...ie/101_1597.jpg Whe I bought this budgie I was told that it was male, however now I am not sure so I would like some advice. Is it male or female? This is a picture of when I first ought him. Notice the green on his head. This has now gone and in its place there is some brown. What is this due to? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Edited May 5, 201015 yr by KAZ
May 4, 201015 yr Looks male but it has a cere that looks like a hen too I say male because it is so pink but the white nasal rings lean toward hen now that was not helpful. did you use a flash for the pics?
May 4, 201015 yr i state male. not sure what the green is about, was there anything green in the cage when you got him as he may have rub that. to the brown could be a sign of infection. does he sneeze or breath heavy?
May 4, 201015 yr Author I didn't use a flash and i'm sure it's not sick. Thanks for the help so far, but id like some more. Edited May 4, 201015 yr by BudgieLoverBob
May 4, 201015 yr I didn't use a flash and i'm sure it's not sick. Thanks for the help so far, but id like some more. he is lute cock bird id say he has got some kind of respertary problem or illness the green could of been due to the bird being marked for clear identification in the flock mabe he mared or she marked all culls and then kept them in flock till he could sell or petshop did to tell males from females not sure just a few guesses the brown mark above his cere is a defenent sighn of a cold or infection of respertory setting in or when this dark usually already set it he could also of been marked as been treated how old is your bird as i just noticed no iris rings its spangle so mabe its df spangle not lute in which case elly could be right in it being a young hen it does look lute though and like a cock to me but need to ask these things photos are hard to go by did you know what mutation he is did you get from a breeder or shop could be badley marked lacewing but its got cin spangleing so its spangled what ever it is and i say not well with what who knows a common cold most like Edited May 4, 201015 yr by GenericBlue
May 4, 201015 yr How long since you bought him/her? Maybe whatever the green was has faded and left stain on the feathers? Has it moulted since you've had it or has the green just faded. If it is new feathers maybe as others have said could be infection.

May 5, 201015 yr Author Thank you for all your replies :laughter: . I am now convinced it is a male and I think the green marking on its head was a way to tell the difference between it and the other budgies as when I first bought him I was told that he had been tamed by the shop keeper. I dont think he's ill so im not sure what the brown is but thank you all for your help! Could someone tell me what colour a female lutinos ceres is?

May 6, 201015 yr Not funny... some advice I've read on there could kill your budgie. Someone advised you 'must' put a nest box in once the hens get a brown cere because she will start to lay eggs.
