June 21, 201014 yr Author Poor boy, his cere looks torn but glad he is okay. could of been worse... dead. that happened to his dad last year. His cere isnt torn...just blood on it. He seems okay and he fed the babies. She attacked him once before when he fed the chicks while she was still with him and she bloodied his wing and tore out some flights. He deserves better some of the chicks photos Edited June 21, 201014 yr by KAZ

June 30, 201014 yr Author i knew shed be the type to become of worth Little Madam decided she wouldn't eat for herself so she sat and sulked. I relieved the Dad of his duties a few days earlier. I had to crop feed her as she was so stubborn. But I think she has turned a corner. Just after I crop fed her tonight and was working in the birdroom ( washing dishes ) I caught her out of the corner of my eye eating seed. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Notice the blue feather regrowth on top of her head where she had been plucked ? other siblings foster sibling Edited June 30, 201014 yr by KAZ
June 30, 201014 yr They are looking great Kaz really nice babies< I hope they tighten those wings when they moult.
June 30, 201014 yr Notice the blue feather regrowth on top of her head where she had been plucked ? Just catching up on some posts I haven't read in a long time. That plucked baby has turned out awesome, hasn't she! All three of the chicks look so good, I was planning to ask you if you were going to let the parents go for a second round, but then I got to the post where the hen had attacked the cock. Not gonna happen. Like you said, he deserves better! I'll be interested to see what his future chicks with his next partner will look like. As to the blue feathers growing in on the top of the plucked baby's head, do you suppose that could be due to damaged "melanin production"? What I mean is, those feather follicles were supposed to code for grey bar coloring, but it got damaged, and now they only make blue? (Probably a question for one of our genetics experts.) Anyway, can you still show the bird that way? If it turns out to be only a few feathers, could you just pluck those, and show it? What beautiful chicks! Even the foster is gorgeous.
June 30, 201014 yr The blue feathers are just adult plumage coming through after the chick feathers were removed, she is none of the better babies I've seen on here Kaz. Please don't make the mistake of putting her in a chick's flight too soon, the longer feathered babies are slow to develope, hence the feeding problem. Treat her with kid gloves and you'll have a good one. cheers clearwing

July 1, 201014 yr Im with Dave on a catchup after she moults out! I think it would be wonderful for her to go from plucked runt of the clutch to #1 baby :what: Those are the ones you sort of end up with a soft spot for
July 1, 201014 yr Author Well she has decided eating is a good thing to do and has begun to feed herself. I went to give her a crop feed tonight and her crop was at least half full of seed already. :what:
