Posted May 3, 201015 yr Hi all, i once again have query about genetics and possibilites. okay so, i was thinking the other day if it were at all possible to acheive: 1. A violet budgie with opaline, and if so would the colour in the wings be violet or not???? and. 2. Is ther such a thing as violet pieds?? and. 3. Is violet added to the base colour (ie:cobalt + violet) or is it a colour in itself?? and can greebn budgies get violet?? or only blue? thankyou for your time Alpaca-boy.
May 3, 201015 yr 1. no idea 2. i think that is possible. *tommy is a violet pied of some sort, i think? * 3. isnta green budgie with violet a olive??
May 3, 201015 yr 3. Violet is a factor, much like a dark factor. True violet only shows up in cobalt (white base budgie with dark factor), or if it is a double violet on sky blue (white based with no dark) so 1. Yes and 2. Yes When a green budgie has a violet factor it darkens the body colour much like a dark factor. A violet tinge will usually be visible near the feet and vent
May 3, 201015 yr Author Hi all, well i have answered some of the questions myself as i did some research on the net and found a var yhandy site. which i beleive maddy got her information from as it sounds very similar: http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html#violet this is an excellent site for mutations but it does not answer Q2 so could someone please clarify Q2 for me! thanks heaps. oh and also does the violet truly show throughon the wings in an opaline violet??? thanks A.B.
May 3, 201015 yr I have seen violet pieds before, I really want one myself for my Daughter, she loves purple and shes really interested in the birds.. well as interested as a 3yo gets
May 3, 201015 yr Author oh wow cool! so i guess that answers all my questions! 1. You can get violet opalines 2. You can get violet pieds 3. violet is added to the base colour (violet+cobalt= true violet) and greens can get violet it just darkens there colour like another df but there is one query unaswered and that is whether violet truly does show on the wings of a violet opaline if anyone can answer this or has a picture i would be extremely grateful, thanks. PS: violets must be rare as you dont see them thta often. well i dont anyway. and know i really want one
May 4, 201015 yr first pictures wings look really nice.*i never knew budgies had green beaks**points to picture 1*
May 4, 201015 yr Is there such thing as a mauve green? Dude has a blue-ish tinge to him around the vent area, so could he be a violet green?
May 4, 201015 yr Author hey ratzy, having blue around the vent.... doesn't that usually mean that they are split for blue?? if it is a green that is. thats what alfalfa has, so i am hoping she is split for blue as this gives me agreater range of colour options when breeding! i think from what i have researched it may also be a green violet, as violet is added to the original colour, but it shouldonly darken the plumage so im sticking with the idea that dude is a split for blue PS: THANKS KAZ FOR THE PICTURES, HELPS MORE WHEN YOU CAN SEE IT FOR YOURSELF, THEY ARE LOVELY.
