as you can see im still trying to get a grasp on the colours, so bear with me

I think you are right Ratemymate, in your assessment.

The first one is definitley a grey opalien dommie pied.

The second one appears very light on the chest, and this may have confused shannon, but that rump patch of greygreen is very clear. I say greygreen opaline dommie pied. That is assuming the cheek patche are grey. If they are blue, and it is hard to tell on my monitor, then she is a YF mauve opaline dommie pied.

They are blue cheekpatches. But my mauve chick has grey cheek patches? :fingerscrossed:

Sorry to disagree but I agree with Shannon on the second bird as I have had two such birds.

THanks for your help guys, I will get a better shot of the rump of the 2nd one.

While im on the 2nd one is that ring on her leg red or gold?

The top one has a blue ring, the breeder told me she was not that old(unbred), I know you guys can sort of see by the iris maybe the age? any ideas

Blue rings were issued from Sept 1st 2009 and are still in use...making the bird very young.....too young to breed.

Red or gold ? Did you use a flash ? Because it seems so and is hard for us to see. It is extremely easy to tell the difference between red and gold as well as the year stamped across the ring.

Thanks Kaz, good to know shes only a youngun for a bit there I thought he had sold me an old bird. I guess next year will be the season for pairing her up maybe... if I can find something suitable.

I did use the flash, I will see what colour it is in the normal light, hard to see but cos it looks red but also gold

she has one of the following rings, I tried to PM you about it but not sure if it worked?? the ( might be the wrong way

WA P (6 148

RWA )o 017

RWA )o 027

Is there anywhere on the web that explains what the rings mean? I have one from BCV which im assuiming is Budgie club of VIC(only because i was told it came from over vic) and another from SA that came from the VIC breeder as well.

The RWA rings are blue right? The )0 on the rings means that 10, so 2010 breeding season.

The WA P ring has a (6 on it. This is an 06 ring. )6 rings are orange. This means that this bird is reachgin the end of her breeding years. If you want offspring from her, you had better put her down sooner rather than later.

Kaz,

They were bought from a guy who is in kelmscott, he had an add in the quokka for a few weeks a few weeks back.

They are the first show budgies Ive ever owned, over the last 20 something years ive had pet type but never show

I dont really have any contacts so have been just looking in there, and at pet shops(SwanValleyB'ds and on the weekend Birdsnall)

Been looking for a visual violet pied for over 12 months lol, they must be rare because ive never seen any for sale and ideally I want the bigger birds, i'll find them eventually.

Might be a good plan for you to join one of our budgie clubs. Access to breeders and better birds especially if you are heading in the show bird direction. If the guy you mentioned you bought birds from is who I am thinking it may be......you need to talk to me. :D

Within the clubs we can source most anything anyone is after.......I may know someone who can help you find a violet pied.
