I was wondering if anyone knew the type of finch this little one is.. also do they coexist with budgies well or are they better in a seperate aviary.. thanks

 

Budgies with budgies only ..........no finches or canaries unless you want your finches to have broken legs, bitten feet. lost toes or death.

Charcoal zebra finch. Like KAz said they co-exist for a while but inevitable to have severe damage to some if kept with budgies

Like pie said a Charcoal Zebra Finch. I use to breed and show them. I disagree in part with not keeping budgies and finches together. It will always depend on numbers of budgies and Finches. Types of finches involved. I have kept quite succesfully 3 pairs of Cut-throats with 400 budgies but the flight was large. I also had in there about a half dozen cockatiels and a Red-capped parrot. Some Finch species are actually quite aggressive and will do more damage to a budgie. Sometimes you can house different species together as long as your not breeding. Breeding will bring out the aggression and territorial behaviour more.

thanks RIPbudgies, I have the one zebra finch but I also have two gouldians, as you said in your comment there are lots of people/websites that say it is okay to house certain breeds of birds together so I just wasn't sure, being a small bird I thought the finches would be the ones to come off second best all the time, which finch breeds would be agressive, just like my budgies they would breed in their own cages but I was just asking as I would have liked to put them in the main flight when not breeding instead of having to get yet another aviary to house just them, which I may like to do later on but only having 3 finches seemed a bit like overkill for now, could I house the zebra and gouldians together when not breeding?

My husband has a huge aviary.......10 metres by 3.7m by 2.8m high. In it he has Princess Parrots, finches and canaries. Despite them having lots of space and nesting areas and places to hide, a certain percentage of the canaries and finches get bitten on legs and feet by the parrots. Thus we have had broken legs, toes. missing toes, and now one legged finches and canaries due to the habit parrots have of biting at the legs of the finches and canaries to move them out of their way on a perch.
