Hi all,

We are first time breeders (can't call ourselfs breaders also). We have 2 pairs of budgies, we have also put 2 seperate nest box for them. Now here are the problems:

1. One lady budgies of the pair wants both the nest box and will not allow the other lady budgie to use any of the nextbox.

2. There is a major fight between both the lady budgies.

3. We have see both the pair mating but none of them have laied any egg is there any specific reason?

Please help I am scared if they will hurt each other. Is seperating them an option like putting each pair in diffrent cage?

Regards

Unni

Best and easiest way to breed them would be one pair to a cage with their own nestbox and no extra budgies in with the breeding pair. :)

Hi, welcome Hope you find this website helpful.

Sound like you're colony breeding

http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....colony+breeding

Here is some information on colony breeding and why we don't think it's a positive way of breeding. Some people have success, but many have heartache

:emoticon112: Hope this helps you

As Kaz says - separate cages/breeding cabinets per pair of budgies - it will save alot of heartache later for you.

I will put then in separate cages but you tell me why they have not laid any eggs till now

Budgies can mate without laying eggs - they have recreational sex, so this may be one reason why there are no eggs.

Another reason could be because both hens want one particular box and they wont lay in the same box. Even though you have two boxes - hens are VERY hormonal/protective/feisty and will fight over them as you have said your two already have.

All four budgies may not be in breeding condition therefore also may not lay and technically shouldn't be breeding until they are in condition

I know there could be more reasons but I can't think of them, sorry! But I hope this helps a bit :emoticon112:

So is patience the key? Is there anyway I can know if they are going to lay eggs or not? Also, one more doubt can I separate both pairs into different cages with one nest-box each?

i will put then in separate cages but you tell me why they have not laid any eggs till nowregardsunni

1. too much stress going on

2, not in proper breeding condition

3. wrong age for breeding

4. Misidentified sexes

can I separate both pairs into different cages with one nest-box each?

One cage with one boy one girl and one nestbox...no other budgies in cage YES :emoticon112:
