Posted April 18, 201015 yr I went to a produce shop today to get a small bag of hulled oats and there were about 10 budgies in a small cage.. They all had scaley face and all looked a bit "unwell".... I tried so hard to walk away.....but I couldn't. I went to the counter and asked for the manager and told him that all the birds were sick, I asked if they had been treated, he said they were fine... :camera: I went home and got my Ivomec and went back and asked if I could treat them and he was okay with that. There was 2 there that were quite pretty and 1 hen that was in the worst shape out of all of them, he wanted $45 for 2, I told him I'll take the 2 I wanted if you give the hen that was quite bad, he agreed. So I have 3 birds with bad scaley face!! So far I have.... * Applied Ivomec * Medicated water with Coccivet * Trimmed toenails - (made one bleed but white pepper stopped it) * Quarantine cage away from my other budgies * Fresh seed - small amount of corn Can you please help with... * How many times should I apply the Ivomec? * Coccivet for 7 days then can I worm them straight after? April 18, 201015 yr What do you mean by how many times a day do you ivomec ? If you mean ivermectin spot on ( back of neck ) ............its once only ...not once a day...just once a treatment. What kind do you have ? and how are you using it.
April 18, 201015 yr Author On the bottle I have it's called Ivomec, I have not had a bird with bad scaley face so I thought the hen might need another treatment... I have given them all 1 drop on the skin at the back of the neck...

I have given them all 1 drop on the skin at the back of the neck... i was told recently twice in two weeks for ivomectom i thought it was just once every three months but i was told that no twice if you suspect they have anything or they do have anything infact just do it once then two weeks later again to kill any new hatched pasties it did make sense to me so thats what im doing for now one this was by a well known breeder i would put her aside myself and id apply parraphin oil to her beak this blocks the tunnles and the mite can not breath you do it dayly for a week every day then in two weeks again for week then again in six weeks to kill any new hatched mite as incubation is 6 week cycle the scale will fall away also every time you clean her beak its bound to work rub on the legs also and feet around they eye try not to let hen eat as can give runns use cotton bud to aply makeing sure new bud is used each wipe
April 18, 201015 yr I have always found that one spot to the back of the neck even with bad cases was enough. :camera:
April 18, 201015 yr I have always found that one spot to the back of the neck even with bad cases was enough. :camera: i admit i only ever just used one to back neck every 3 months but when i was told what i was by who well lets just say i trust them the parafin will defenently fix it just time consuming
April 18, 201015 yr Since it has gone to the eyes also...the spot on ivermectin in needed to be able to clear that up. Oil can be used on feet etc but if you have already used the spot on then you dont need oil as well. Is the beak still normal shape or will it need trimming ?
April 18, 201015 yr generally i have done one spot only. Do one spot, leave it a week or so, and see what you think then.

April 18, 201015 yr The beak is mis-shapen however with the meds working and some new growth it may well correct itself with time.

April 18, 201015 yr Author Thanks everyone, I hope I can fix her... In regards to after the 7 day treatment of Coccivet, should I give them a weeks break then worm them? Or do it right after?
April 18, 201015 yr The ivermectin I believe does worms, lices and mites form what I have read of Nubbly's post in health section... So you shouldn't need to worm them all now... Correct me if wrong someone please...?
