Posted April 16, 201015 yr I have let Marigold and Skye have a go at rearing some more. Marigold has had egg bum for days and when I got back from school today there was an egg in the box. The egg was still wet so she must have laid it very recently. Hopefully Marigold and Skye will be just as successful as last time. I'll keep you updated!
April 18, 201015 yr Author I'm getting worried now.. Marigold hasn't passed the second egg. She is not showing any signs of egg binding but it is 5 past 6!

April 18, 201015 yr Author I have enough room to keep them then I was going to not breed until later next year so I could upgrade the cage. Dad wants me to in case of inbreeding. He doesn't know that they probably won't without a nest box which I would not provide. Sorry if this makes no sense. Marigold still hasn't passed the egg as far as I can see.
April 19, 201015 yr Author okay, no need to worry, Marigold laid the egg off the perch. I put it in the box but I have doubts it will hatch. She is now being a good mother and is incubating them both.

Ratzy.....I'm sorry but I have to agree 100% with Dave...at least find new good homes for the other babies if you dont have the space/ are not allowed to keep them first..... Take the eggs and the nest box away from all the birds until you have your parents 100% support...it's not fair on the young chicks.... You don't have to breed budgies to enjoy them.... I'm sorry , but this is my opinion...

A lot of people sell their own babies and buy in someone elses to bring in new blood :rofl:
April 20, 201015 yr Author Marigold through the second egg out and it cracked. She has laid another one today. Thankyou for understanding Kaz. I would rather not sell my bubs as I was going to let Marigold and Skye have a second clutch and keep them all and upgrade the cage over the next year into an aviary or at least a bigger cage. At the moment my cage can fit 10-12 budgies- non breeding.
April 20, 201015 yr So when these ones are born, will your Dad force you to get rid of them as well? I just think you are doing things in the wrong order. I know we all get excite by the prospect of young, but to me, it seems like you are putting the cart before the horse, or your own desires before the birds. Upgrade now, then breed later. Seems the fair thing to do.
April 20, 201015 yr Author No.. I'll be allowed to keep these ones. My upgrading plans I'm saving up for, and after this round they won't breed again until it is finished. I'm saving up for it at the moment. From my angle it does seem the logical thing to do but maybe I'm wrong.
April 22, 201015 yr Author Well, Marigold laid another egg today. I've thought and though over it and it still seems like the logical thing to do. Please do not judge me by my actions, because I really do think it is the right thing to do.

April 24, 201015 yr Hi Ratsy, If your going for a second round, then taking breeding cage out it should be o.k. if your keeping chick's for now. Dad's worried about inbreeding but as chicks are to young to breed for twelve months, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe by that time you'll have upgraded your set-up. If you sold these babies and used money to buy in new pair e.g. that would solve that as well then, you could breed Marigold to new bird or keep her with skye and breed to pairs for new blood. Just my thoughts on it. Good luck with new clutch. :emoticon112:
April 24, 201015 yr Author I'm selling the chicks. I have found a breeder near me! At last! He gave me his address and phone number, and said I could go and see his set up and aviary. I won't be breeding after this clutch for about a year or less, while I upgrade. Maybe I could buy a new pair off the breeder? Only I'm not sure he breeds pet types.
April 24, 201015 yr That sound's great Ratsy, even if he doesn't have pet types he may have some culls you could buy. :emoticon112: If he's a breeder and you can see his set up it will give you a better idea of how to up-grade your's. Good luck.
April 24, 201015 yr Author Thanks, at the bird sale I bought a travel/hospital cage and some decent wormer. I saw some triple c, so now I know I can get some around here.
April 25, 201015 yr Author It doesn't look like the eggs are going to hatch now. Dad moved the cage and probablye addled the eggs and now Marigold isn't sitting on them. So I'll ask dad if I can keep the babies.

Hang on, you lost a clutch of eggs, so you are going to ask your Dad if you can keep the birds from the previous clutch that you told us you had already found homes for? Seems there are a few holes in your story? Either that or you are reneging on the promise you made to others to give them a bird. Not sure which one it is. Maybe I am completely wrong? Care to clear it up for me?
