Posted April 15, 201015 yr I have had a pair down for about 6 weeks now and although she has spent a lot of time in the nesting box there's still no eggs so today I put them back in the flight, do you think this was the right decision? They are a bonded pair from the flight and got on great. It's hard to get good birds from a breeder when all there offering are the ones they don't want and just maybe they have problems....... How long should you give a pair before you give up on them? I put another pair down at the same time and they have 3 eggs. I'm thinking I should have started with pet budgies and not show birds because in the past I could breed pet budgies like flies. Geoff
April 15, 201015 yr Was she is proper breeding condition ? Cere colour ? Also check her abdomen for a soft squooshy spongey feeling as she may be herniated or an internal egg layer.
April 15, 201015 yr Author Her cere was light brown and she is an 07 hen from a show breeder. Thanks, Geoff
April 15, 201015 yr Cere sounds like it was right colour... Did you ever see them mate...? Ive had hens they would not mate with certain cocks but others no problems... Could she be one of those hens...? have you bred with her before...? Does she show any signs of illness...? Scaley, etc...

I have never bred with her. She is health and in good condition. The cock bird could be the problem he is an 08 and seems all fired up and ready to go but likes mounting the perches , how long do you give your birds before giving up on them? Cheers
April 15, 201015 yr how often was she out of the box...? often enough for them to mate or did she just hide in the box from the male giving him no chance to mate with her...? Not sure what you could do if she was a nest box hinder... Hmmm... Others may have some suggestions... Give them a break like u you are and try again later, if still no success split them and try with different hen or cock...

She spent more time out of the box then in but still went in a couple of times a day and she would throw out all the nesting material.
