Hi, just a question... what is the hatch rate of chicks taking 2 days to hatch? Did I get lucky with Thimble hatching? She took 2 days to finally crack the egg. I have read that they have died if they take that long. Has anyone had any chicks taking this long? Yeah, I know, stupid question, but I just wanted to know if Thimble was really lucky or is it normal.

Do you mean from the time they pip the air cell til the time they pip the eggs shell? it can take 2-3 days from internal pip til external pip. And from external pip til hatched it can take another 1-3 days, but usually after 2 they seem to get weak and may not survive.

You can normally hear the chick chirping too... If you listen carefully you will hear a soft chirping from inside meaning the chick is still happy or you will hear a distressed chirping sound that is when you will need to help the chick hatch...
