Crop Needles?

Featured Replies

Hello!

I was just wondering what you guys think about crop needles for handrearing. I handrear birds for pets and I have always used a syringe. I have learnt about crop-needles because one of my birds is ill and requires it, but apparently it is also good for hand-rearing. I find with syringes that the birds dont always swallow it. you are also uncertain how much actually goes in, apart from a rough feel of how full the crop is. So what do you guys use? Does crop-needling take away some of the interaction form hand reared birds?

Cheers

I dont hand rear so I cannot answer that aspect. BUT Crop needling is a vital skill best learnt early on and not left till the last minute when it means life or death for a bird............for medications emergency crop feeds etc. Everyone breeding birds should learn how to crop feed or crop needle.

I do know that crop feeding by needle saved many a baby chick that would not take a syringue feed.
