Posted April 2, 201015 yr Hi I have a sick bird and I am not quite sure what to do. She is only about 5 months old, a violet TCB. She is all wet around her beak, and puffed up. She is regurgitating seed and she looks like she has been chewing dirt/grit form the ground. She is all bubbly around her mouth. I have taken her out and she is in a flight cage. Please, some help! April 2, 201015 yr canker or megabacteria nothing you can do re meds exactly....... she needs a vet pretty urgently or take a chance and get some ronivet s from someone and assume its canker seperate cage and warmth. Easter weekend so you wont find a vet I expect
April 2, 201015 yr Author Thanks Kaz. She is inside and warm, and I have some honey water in with her. I haven't got hold of any Ronivet S yet, still trying.
April 2, 201015 yr dont give glocose it makes bacteria worsen i was told rock salt in the water and warmth the bird sounds like what happened to mybirds and in the end it was due to stress but as kaz said cannker or megga show these sighns also i would not medicate anybird though with out vets advice but treating for cannker wont hurt if its it as can only stop it id go clean aviry with other birds in it with a vinager spray on perches and wire all water dishes and clean seed tray to insure other birds more chance of not becomming unwell untill u can find out what happened to this bird Thanks Kaz. April 2, 201015 yr Some vets have limited opening hours. I'd find one of those instead of guessing with treatment... That's what I'd personally do. Good luck.
April 2, 201015 yr Author okay, I have Ronivet S and I am working out to amounts. It is 4g to 4 litres, so I am making up one litre with one gram in it.
April 2, 201015 yr Ronivet wont hurt and is given as a preventative treatment anyway. I recently had to treat some quarantine birds with it. Made a big difference in just a day or two. So, in cant hurt and I still say she needs a vet diagnosis....but as its easter...you may find it hard to get an avian vet to look at her. Edited April 2, 201015 yr by KAZ
April 2, 201015 yr i agree with kaz the cannker treatment wont afect her or his state only help it if it is cannker but i would not medicate with other things and i would ring around find a vet thats open Ronivet wont hurt and is given as a preventative treatment anyway. April 2, 201015 yr Author Hopefully she will be fine. She will be checked out on Monday most likely, if she survives. I tried to drop a couple drops of water in her beak with a syringe, hopefully that helps. I don't have a crop syringe, and I cant flush it either because I don't know how. Lets hope for the best everyone!
April 2, 201015 yr Good luck! It does sound like canker rather than mega what with the wetness and froth. Try and learn how to crop needle as canker basically blocks up the eosophagus and the act of crop needling canker affected birds can often help to dislodge some of the white protazoal buildup. Also allows you to apply medication immediately rather than waiting for a bird to uptake it via water. Budgies being non-obligate drinkers can make this hit and miss. Hope she is okay.
April 3, 201015 yr Author Well she survived the night, and she is chirping and flying around a bit. I tried to get some in her with a syringe, I am hoping that is enough. I am still fairly new to budgies, so I haven't learnt crop feeding yet. Someone may be coming around tonight or tomorrow night, hopefully to crop feed her.
