Posted March 31, 201015 yr I found a link on budgies and I watched it. The cage is tiny and has 6 budgies in it! AND Doctor Harry gave them a nest box so their hen could lay eggs ! 2 babies have splayed legs! http://au.video.yahoo.com/watch/5039046/13393906 I'm not sure the link will work but here it is.
March 31, 201015 yr hmmm at work so I've got no sound but I've gotta say that doesn't look ideal to say the least... would be interesting to know if they get to fly around the house... have to watch at home with sound.
March 31, 201015 yr Author He advises them to put a nest box in when there's 6 birds in the cage already! Wouldn't that end up with injured babies?
March 31, 201015 yr well he's connected the nest box to the bottom of the cage. The set up is terrible but hey 'Dr. Harry has a 'DR.' in front of his name, just goes to show he isn't an avian vet.

March 31, 201015 yr Dr Harry for those who are unaware of his history use to breed show budgies for quite some years. If my memory hasn't completely failed me I think one of the varieties he bred were Clearwings. The video was interesting. It seems the hen has already bred in such a small cage that I would not consider ideal to house a budgie in long term. It does dissappiont me that Dr Harry did not encourage them to find a better solution, maybe a small backyard aviary instead. He did not address the obvious over-crowding issue. Keep in mind that videos such as this have been produced for the TV show. There may well have been other discussions off camera. Also don't forget the birds came from somewhere in the first place. Maybe a breeder or a pet shop. These people may not have got adequate advice in the first place.
March 31, 201015 yr Author Yeah, I just thought that he did have an off camera chat. That was what made me put it up.... the overcrowding and the fact he did not seem to address that problem.
March 31, 201015 yr arnt the nest boxes ment to be attached to the cage?. and yes the cage is extremly small i wouldnt house 1 budgie in there let alone 6
March 31, 201015 yr I am not bagging "Dr" Harry, but Vets are technically not doctors. They are part of the group of people that call themselves doctors without having a doctorate (like chiropractors). Vets generally do a 5 years Bachelors degree in Vet Science. Sure, you have to be smart as the entry scores are high and I rely on mine in times of need - but Dr...??? Cheers PT
March 31, 201015 yr I agree PT and I discovered a vet nurse is nothing more than a janiter a glorified mmmm kicker, cleaning and a assisting. But if you love animals it's all worth it but if you can't hack the vomit or poops or all that blood you have to clean up OR the smaell of blood then it isn't all it's cracked up to be. Talking about me I dropped out because I discovered my stomic couldn't handle the task, the cleaning and mopping was fine but I found I vomited more than the dogs did. How embarressing. And the blood well the smell stuck with me day and night. And every time I thought about the smell I nearly fainted. weak hey. Sorry guys just felt like getting this off my chest
March 31, 201015 yr I agree that there wouldve been off air conversations between them but it is the responsibility for producers to provide the viewers with facts. The idea of the segment is to educate viewers on how to better look after your pets. In this case budgies. I don't think it does that, infact I think it miseducates the viewer.

April 12, 201015 yr Unfortunately he doesn't have control over everything he is invloved with - I know this from recent dealings with a pet shop he supports but it does tarnish his reputation a little - how else are we supposed to feel about things he puts his face or name to? I would not be willing to publicly show my face with something that is 'dicey'.

If I remember correctly i think he said 4 yr course... The first 3 yrs you cover the generally care of alot of animals, not just dogs and cats... He has helped cattle give birth, the cutting open of animals some were frogs and birds, trips out to study animals in their homes, etc... In the last year he was saying you can continue to study to be a general vet or specialise in certain animals... Plus I think he was saying there are other courses they say study after too... He plans to become a Avain Vet, as he is a big bird lovers, well animal lover really...
