Posted March 30, 201015 yr Hi, i have this female budgie who is about 1 year old, she's with a male budgie and has laid lots of eggs but she doesn't sit on them properly and then ends up breaking them. She was in a cage for about 8 months so i think its because she's been in a cage to long and forgot how to be a parent. I'm wondering what should i do with her and should i keep the male with her, just without a nest box. thanks
March 30, 201015 yr I am confused by what you are saying How can being in acage for 8 months make her confused about how to be a parent when for 8 months she was underaged anyway and not meant to be doing anything that involved being a parent ? i think its because she's been in a cage to long and forgot how to be a parent. Where is she now ? Cage or aviary ? In with others or just her and the male ? Are you sure of her age ? Edited March 30, 201015 yr by KAZ
March 30, 201015 yr Author she is in a huge aviary with two other pairs. Yes, that is her age. I was told that if a bird was in a cage for to long they can lose there instincts.

I was told that if a bird was in a cage for to long they can lose there instincts. You were told wrong. Chances are extremely high that she didnt break her eggs but another female did. Or the other birds are keeping her form her nestbox. Remove her and her partner to a seperate cage and you will have more success. Edited March 30, 201015 yr by KAZ
