Winters Comming Batten Down The Hatch

Featured Replies

Posted

hi

i lost a young chick other day and relized it was due to chill

so i decided with the weather the way it was to do something now not latter

i can already see and hear improvment in my flock

here is my wind block

i made it from 4 fence pallings a few nails some industrial cling wrap (as its breatherbale ) and some plastic bags that i get my sand in

i just atatched them to my sun shades which are removable so if i do happen to get a warm day out of the blue i just take the side pannles off and fix back at dusk

here are the pics

any questions im happy to answer

They are great GB! Such a great idea and a cheaper way of doing things if, like myself, you can't afford the cafe blinds. I love it! Your birds are gorgeous and look very happy.

thanks

last year i brought clear plastic from bunnings and then taped it on

so this year i decided to do the cling wrap as the plastic was not breathable and i didnt like the humidity great bacteria grower so this year i can remove side blinds if need be

the frames i made that i wrapped the cling around have shade cloth on them

and i can remove very quick and easy as i can put on if rain decides to come with out warning

the frames are their summer and winter

and come off on hot days but on every nigt winnter i cling wrapped as shadecloth still lets in drafts

Hi GB just wondering what that white stuff is that you used on the ceiling above the birds head in this picture. We have had an extremely rainy day today and my aviary has leaked,so am looking for a safe product to block up the leaks. Thanks Libby

Very Smart GB, you are very nifty , who says women can't build, I think we are very smart actually, I have to admit though I had a giggle watching you construct that :nest:

was that a glass of wine you were reahing for or the nails :budgiedance:

looked pretty cool when i came and saw it. p.s hows the flock going?

  • Author

sorry darl i only just came on line tonight even when im here im not always lol

the white stuff i think your refering to is

its called gap sealer its a plaster bassed water washable when its dry it will block leaks but when wet you can wash it off if it gets messy

if your trying to stop leaks its best to do from outside

its a sallys brand where your leak is go from outside to fill so birds cant chew it as much

my job really is a bodggy job lol

thanks clearwing yes its rather windy and cold in gippsland

and splat i wish it was wine but it was just nails and it was hard putting it together alone with no help but im useto doing everything on my lonesome so always manage im pretty deturmain lol so even if it takes a month of sundays id do it

thanks houman its working well so thats wht i like to see the aviry happens to be in the wind spot

:) So GB can please answer my question B)

Libby.

our roofs been leaking today because we got a sunroof for the kitchen my dad fixed that by buying this roll of aluminium from bunnings like $30 for 10 meters or something and then put seelys roof and gutter sealent around it. fixed it right up might want to try that.
