Whats better about the Grey Green Spangle - FEATHER. He is that far ahead of the other birds its not funny.

What do you think of the Green Hen?

Not much from looking at the picture, really depends on what else you have to use.

That's a breeders cull bird. You know the ones that get sold after the **** ones have gone to the dealer...

Its still a **** bird, but the spangle is very nice. If i were you, i would be getting back to breeder/dealer (or wherever) to get some more from that spangle line.

I dont know how old he is, but he would make a good foundation cock

Yes but your whole argument was based around the "fact" that you will get better birds from breeders as they will offer you better birds than dealers.

Any breeder will ask you what you are prepared to spend on a bird, and if its not much they will show you birds within that price range. There may be a breeder or two that will size you up and only offer you what they think you need, not necessarily what you think you needs, and also its up to you at the end of the day to say, no...I looking for something a little better.

You seem to indicate you dont go to breeders to buy ? Is this right or not ?

KAZ, I have other birds besides budgies. I have bought many other species of birds from breeders and have been burnt. Do you think the breeder gives a rats when you call them? I think your judgement is clouded because you only see what you want to see within the safe surrounds of a club environment, where everyone looks after each other. Granted, this is probably the best environment for a beginner like me but I'm not ready to join a club yet so I have to do the best I can through other means.

Let's just agree there are different levels of breeders and that some are more "friendly" than others when it comes to selling stock to newbies like me.

Thats an assumption

As with all things and all people there is good and bad. Noone can generalise. All we can do is speak from our own experiences. However, if you ever make the move into a club you will be educated on what to look for, and you will have access to far more bird to chosose from than you do now. Enough said.

Well didn't we get carried away while I was offline...

I can agree with you cranberry if your arguement is:

Not all breeders are good.

But it seems that your opinion of breeders is somewhat negative due to experiences you've had with other bird species breeders. This I have no opinion on because lets face it once you've got budgies everything else is second rate.

in my short experience with breeders of budgies I've found them to be very helpful and far better than any dealer.

That's my experience, sorry that your experience hasn't been as pleasent as mine... Maybe move to Melbourne where you can get many great birds from many great breeders. :P there's a reason why VIC is going to win Nationals in QLD this year... Hahaha
