Keep in mind that some of these pics are not up to date.

Group hug!

Does this look cinnamon to you?

And last one..... can you see the little opaline?

any chance you can take clear photos of each baby ( not the nestbox shots ) ? :P

Ratzy...the chicks are so beautiful! And I think it's so sweet that Marigold and Skye are such lovely parents :P

Is one of the babies mauve? the first baby picture looking out the nest box of this last lot of pictures looks mauve. My last four chicks were all mauve (3 normals and 1 ?rec pied) but both parents were DF (hen mauve, cock YF1 Olive dom pied)

It would be so lovely if you are able to post nice clear pics of the babies outside of the box...have you named them yet?

I have managed to name two so far. I was thinking the same thing about mauve...... but I read something about mauve chicks looking grey and close up I think it looks more violet than mauve. I've taken some photos outside and I brought them inside with Marigold. She was so good and sat with them while I was holding them. Then came the unmistakeable sound of Skye chucking up a tantrum. :laughter: :laughter: :laughter:

Eldest sits on the ledge of the nest box. I have named three...... Thimble, Buttons and Angelica, Angie for short. Angie is the opaline. I took them out for cuddles yesterday with Marigold. Marigold didn't know what to do. More pics coming soon of individuals, as soon as the camera turns up, lol. I noticed Skye has a squarish head shape, does that means he has english blood?

 We just had our first escapee. Little opaline was sitting there looking so innocent I almost believed her. :P:wub: I have an old blanket strung up underneith the box. She was perching on the edge of it. Since I know for a fact she can't fly at all yet, I put her in for the night. I was a bit surprized that she was first one out seeing as she is the third chicky. I will try and get some pics but the camera is at school. I have some on my laptop but it is not coppoperating at the moment.

okay, I've run into a minor (I hope) problem with my breeding. The eldest has come out and can actually fly. The problem? Well Marigold doesn't want anything to do with it and it can't feed itself. Everytime Skye tries to feed it Marigold comes over and fights with Skye. So.... should I put it in the kindy cage? With Skye? After Skye had his attack Marigold has not let him feed anyone but herself. Including the chicks.

The other chicks are about 4 weeks at estimate. Marigold is fine with the other chicks so do I just put SKye in the kindy cage? And the chick?

Put Marigold in another cage seperate from the chicks and dad.....out of earshot. Let him finish raising the chicks. Put them all on the floor of the cage ( icecream tub with seed in it for bedding ) and remove the nestbox. Marigold has become hormonal and is about to start another clutch. If you dont follow this advice you will, in all likelihood find she will scalp a chick or two that are still in the nest. 4-5 weeks is fledging age anyway.

The youngest is about three and a half weeks. I am going to let Marigold rest. There is just Mum and Dad to cnvince. Wish me luck.

Well anyway Kaz, I took your advice on the ice cream container. Marigold will be separated as soon as the bottom bit has dried out. In the mean time I'm keeping a VERY close eye on them. The two youngest are staying in the container. The opaline, aka Lexi, comes out but can't seem to figure out how to get to the perch.

If you arent quick to sepperate marigold she will beigin another clutch.

Put some low perches in or a branch from floor up to a perch for the youngsters.

Marigold isn't very happy now..... she doesn't like being alone. Mum and Dad made me put the babies in the nest box, not the ice cream container. I will just put in some low branches for the chicks then I'll swap back. Really, I'd be lost without this forum, and, even if I'd managed to get some chicks I'd probably lose them to Marigold.

The babies are old enough to be out................if they are in the nest sometimes they dont get fed. Better to remove the nestbox completely and use the icecream tub.

Maybe your Mum and dad need to be members of this forum as it seems you always have to get ppermission to listen to our good advice or use what you learn here. Its frustrating for us who advise you and your parents then turn it around :P

I know how you feel, trust me. Grrrrrrr.

Please take the nestbox OFF and put the tub back on the floor of the cage. Make sure Marigold doesnt go back in the cage....give her a fortnights holiday in a seperate cage not next to the others.

Please tell your parents that the advice you get on here is from expert breeders. I would be older than both your parents I expect. Tell them its not other kids advising kids. There is little point in you asking for advice.........getting it....and then not being able to do whats been advised.

:P

PS Your parents can talk to me by PM of they want.

I do tell them.....dad agrees with the ice cream container but mum worries they'll get cold. From today the next box is going.

Tell Mum they have feathers ! :D

AND at this age they are near on leaving the nest anyway.

...mum worries they'll get cold...

:D reminds me of an old book I read on Budgerigars. They said to put 'sleeping quarters' all around the top of the aviary... the 'sleeping quarters' looked very similar to breeding boxes...

Nest box is out... everyone is perching. I'm a bit confused. You see, Skye is courting the youngest chick, who looks exactly like Marigold except for the chick features. And he was mating? Should I remove him too? The eldest is copying him by jumping on her brothers back. Has anyone else had this problem?
