January 29, 201015 yr Author As I told you before, I only peep once a day. Today, she happened to get off her eggs while I was around, so I got the camera to take some pics, but the battery went flat, so I just looked.
January 29, 201015 yr Author I'm keeping records of the eggs and such. I have no more wood shavings at the moment, Marigold chucked it all out, would it be okay if I just shredded some paper?
January 29, 201015 yr Ratzy....I wouldn't touch anything now, you should not ever move the eggs...just leave it, the hen will most likely remove it again anyway...you can change the bedding once the chicks hatch, they will be fine
January 29, 201015 yr Author okay.... Skye is at the nest hole, waiting for his chance to feed Marigold. Marigold is about twice as fat, sitting on the eggs. Beepa is annoyed at being forced to live away from the budgies.
January 29, 201015 yr Thanks! Marigold is constantly incubating at the moment, I think another egg is due today. For the first time, this morning I caught them in what looked like a successful mating position. I was getting a bit worried that none of the eggs would be fertile, since I hadn't seen them mating before. Â Â I doubt she is.....its what I was saying about it seeming like they are but she is only in there to pass the next egg.

She has been out four times today, for a few minute each time.

and since another egg isnt due for another two days now can you stop checking her please ????????????????????

Sorry for being so persistent, but it does look like she's incubating, she has 2 eggs under her and she is all fluffed up. Of course, I may well be wrong, you have more experiance than me.

She started to incubate when the first egg was laid and last night she was in there the whole night.

She started to incubate when the first egg was laid and last night she was in there the whole night. Â Â How is it that you can see into the nest box? Can we see a photo of it, so we can get a better idea? Â Also, I was told that if there was no concave, I would need to add more nesting materials. I didn't want to disturb the eggs, so (during my normal daily checking time) I put a heap of oatmeal in the box, not over the eggs, but nearby. By the next day, the hen had trampled them around, and all was fine without my bothering the eggs. Â Oh, and another thought. Since you are writing things down and keeping good records, when the first chick hatches, you can count back 18 days to get a rough idea of the time she started incubating. It does seem that my hens were incubating from the first egg. But don't forget that the 18 days is not set in stone. It could vary due to heat and other conditions, and some chicks can hatch early and some late. But it's something you can check on once one hatches.
January 29, 201015 yr Author thanks, Finnie. She wasn't properly incubating when she laid the first egg, but is now.
January 30, 201015 yr Sounds like things are progressing normally now Ratsy, as you've only got one pair breeding, it will give you the chance to observe the whole cycle without it being a lot of work for you. I suppose your back at school now, so you will be pretty busy I imagine. Keep up the good work .
January 30, 201015 yr Author Not back at school for a few days, Robyn! Today they were mating when Marigold got out of the nesting box. Since Finnie didn't get an answer, I will ask for him. Is it normal for the male to switch from side to side?

January 31, 201015 yr I am so curious as to how you are set up there with your birds such that you can see into the nestbox so often and she can't see you...can you show us some pictures? Â Congrats on your eggs
January 31, 201015 yr Author Well, I do think it is time for pics, I'll see if I can get some tommorow! The cage can be seen through the window and the nest box is position so we can see inside the hole. She can't see us because of a piece of newspaper!
