Posted March 14, 201015 yr First things first, Male or female? Second, I do not know what that black spot on his beak is, it's off now, but, I would like to know why his beak is so.. bothered? It was like that when I got him/her, his feet look similar, (Roughness and flaky), I thought it would clear up, but, it hasn't.. I have 4 other budgies and none of their ceres or feet are like his, help would be really appreciated.
March 14, 201015 yr Your budgie has scalyface mites. You need ivermectin from the vet. One drop in the back of its neck next to the skin.
March 14, 201015 yr Author From the vet? Sounds expensive, but, the animals come first. So, Is it a boy or girl? Also, How serious is this? Is it life threatening? Edited March 14, 201015 yr by Sean
March 14, 201015 yr From the vet? Sounds expensive, but, the animals come first. So, Is it a boy or girl? Not exactly sure on the sex from that photo.........maybe male. The scalyface mites have taken hold. They are affecting the feet and the beak is already mis-shapen. The need for treatment is urgent. Dont try and get petshop meds as its gone past that stage. March 14, 201015 yr Is this condition contagious?Yes.Also, How serious is this? Is it life threatening?not life threatening but makes them feel miserable and with your budgie already has started making the beak grow wrong so will affect ability to eat if left untreated.

March 16, 201015 yr It is best to quarantine this budgie from your other budgies. If you had this budgie in the same cage as you other budgies, it would be a good idea to take them also to the vet for treatment. Make sure the vet is an avain vet. Edited March 16, 201015 yr by birdluv
March 17, 201015 yr Hi Sean, as your in America Ivermectin may be called by something different. It has to be avian strength. 1 drop behind head every 3 months is the recomended dose here.It will treat most other worms as well. Others might verify this but I think you can help smother the mites by vaseline smeared over the feet and beak which may help in the meantime.
March 17, 201015 yr SCATT is available where you are and yes vaseline can be used in earlier stages BUT your bird now has a misshapen beak due to the mites. I suggest strongly a vet visit is in order in case the beak needs reshaping/trimming and do noit rely on petshop products or vaseline now as it has gone a little further than that.
March 17, 201015 yr I think it is a boy. I've never had a bird with scaly face myself but know that it won't go away on its own, so I recommend following the others' advice on this.
