Learning How To Tell The Sex Of Baby Budgies?

Featured Replies

Posted

While growing up I owned several budgies, all of which passed away after living long and healthy lives, and all of which were females. Now, I am finally going to get a new budgie, and I'm thinking I would like to get a male, for a slightly different experience. However, I want to get a handfed baby, which will obviously be too young for the cere to have changed colors, and I'm not experienced at sexing young budgies. If you guys could teach me a bit about it so that I might be able to pick out a male, please, do tell! Any pictures as examples or just descriptions would be great!

Look in the http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showforum=97 what sex is my budgie forum ( where you posted this ) and you will see an article on CERES :)

Thank you, I hadn't noticed, I should have looked harder. :D

What is the main difference between baby hens and baby boys? I notice some of the girls seem to have lighter ceres with a slight ring around the nostrils, but I saw that on a few baby boys as well.

Rule of thumb is any white on a cere is female even if there is blue with the white :D

Thank you! I've been looking at all the previous posts and trying to guess the sex before looking at everyone's answers, and I think I'm getting the hang of it :D
