Omg! How Can I Help My Poor Bird?

More in the saga of Elly and Sunshine.....

Some of you may remember they were the two who started nesting on the cage floor and went on to have 4 gorgeous chicks. Elly brutally attacked Sunshine when the chicks were very little and did some serious damage and bloodied Sunshine's face very badly. I separted them of course and left Elly to raise the chicks by herself which she did quite admirably. After Sunshine's face healed (with lots of care from me and keeping his wounds clean)and somehow without infection but permanent damage to his lower beak, I put him in with a group of very gentle birds and monitored the situation very closely...all has been okay with him and the others.

But to my horror I saw yesterday that Elly must have fought with one of her male chicks that day too and did some damage to the side of his lower beak. Right away, I moved the four of them to a kindy cage (they are feeding themseles fine so no worries there) but here's where my heart broke for Sunshine...

His lower beak is ow only held on by one side!!!!! Now...what I don't know is if beak material grows back like finger nails and so the old damaged part has to slough off or if he is seriously maimed as this has finally healed completely. I can't see how he is able to eat like this but he seems to be managing and I'm very worried it will catch on something and tear. Do beaks even grow back????? If not, what is likely to be his fate??? What about the baby with the damaged beak?

I have no idea what I'm going to do with Elly as I can't have her systematically killing my other birds!

Please help!!!!!

Beaks dont grow back. Tips broken away will regrow if the broken part of beak is minor. A beak that is damaged where it begins likely will not regrow. I had a princess parrot with damaged beak and took it to the avian vet for him to decide and she was euthenased.

Post pictures for assessment or race it off to the vet for his best advice and decision.

The hen must have decided to try again ( even if only in her head ) and is protecting her patch.

Remove her to another cage till she settles down and gets out of the hormonal feral stage.
