Hi All, I keep coming across references to "Mops", French moult I get, I think. Feather dusters I take it are different again.

Can anyone explain what these birds are, what causes them, if known how to pick the signs if we see one or breed one etc. Pictures of some would be great. :)

A MOP is another term for a feather duster. Another name is chrysanthemum budgie...all three are the same.

So it's all in the wording!! Thank's Kaz. So do they just appear or are certain birds likely to breed them, or is it just genetics again?

Seems to be if both parents have it in their genetic background.

Seems to be a very hotly contested topic in the Budgie world :D

Doubt it JB. Hotly contested topic would be french moult.

Thank's Jimmy Banks & Kaz. I'm trying to satisfy myself that I would not be creating more problems. SEE BREEDING HELP : CAN ANYONE ADVISE. By breeding these birds. They are big nice looking birds (except for no 4.) even though 2 so far, missing a long tail.

Reason for uncertainty is R.I.P. Way back when, I posted these birds, said her thoughts were maybe long feathered birds led to her breeding Feather Dusters. Hence my concern. Do I breed these chicks or not with small pet type birds for size increase??? :D

All the feather dusters I have seen in nests came from normal looking parents...not long flighted. But who knows whats in the gene pool ?

There's only one way to find out what you will get breeding them and thats to try.....and of course not to each other as you already know :D
