Show Budgies Behaving Badly

Featured Replies

Posted

I decided yesterday at the show to begin a topic here where we can post pictures of show budgies behaving badly in their show cages. You all may have seen them...the ones that hump their drinkers, hide under paper, hang upside down from the bars and snooze in the corner etc.

I took some pictures yesterday like this and so did littlebudgie. Anyone else have any post them here too :D

hahaha someone got bored or frustrated or just wanted to play!! The Albino hen chewed up her label!

It's nice to see the budgies' playful/cheeky/naughty side when normally they're meant to be perching nicely in their cages :D

Well nice and funny to those who haven't entered them into the show - not so nice for their owners who hope they behave themselves :)

This one looks proud of the damage she did :)

But don't you hate it when it's down to an magor award and your bird decides to be naughter :D

I take it that they were doing this as they were being judged.... They usually are very well behaved when not in front of the judge. :D

Me thinks this calls for a thread on show cage training!!!!!!! (and in my case what NOT to do). :D

I am trying to show cage train now, some are good some little brats :D

The dark side of showing budgies... When things go wrong... Beware not for the faint hearted... :)

Just curious as each state is different, but I see that some cages don't seem to have seed in them and some have strange big drinker cups and they all seem to have paper or plastic on the floor.

Here in Victoria we have to have the right budgie seed in our cages quite a bit actually I think about at least an inch deep and no paper or plactic on the floor and the right drinker in between the right bar or we will be disqualified.

All cages are met to have a white piece of paper on the floor... WA has a new rules for seed now, the white D cup you see is now what seed is to go into... I think it becomes offical in 2011... Plus we have new thicker perchs too... 16mm if i remember...Those that dont have D cups can still put seed on floor for now... I'm sure someone will correct me if wrong... I still learning... :) Hope that helps Splat...

If someone can post something than I can add more photos... Thanks... :D

WA decided to trial small white d-cup feeders on the front right bottom of the cage due to OH&S issues with seed all over polished floors, but not everyone has implemented that yet (yes, marked cages but well.....). Others had seed in the bottom as per normal requirements. The paper was normal for our smaller table shows (no seed) but now for welfare reasons we have decided that they need seed every show but that the huge amount of seed on the floor was also a problem. Hope that clarifies it a bit.The thinker perches have come from an ANBC ruling that budgies should be perching on a 16mm perch size. Not 100% sure when that ruling takes complete effect. So all that is different are the small white d-cups (plus paper). When they are fitted correctly (below the front rail of the cage) they are barely noticable and they definitely work well. My birds snacked happily from them (when they were not grubbing around on the floor.

This one definitely was mine :( I spent quite a lot of time trying to train this little hag too. Water in the bottom of the cage, bucket washing and then drying in the show cage, ping pong balls - you name it! Definintely NOT the good show temperament there......

That's interesting, wouldn't mind that happening here as it would save heaps of seed :( Yes we are having those perches too not sure when either.

More bad budgies... :(

That was the first thing i noticed also Splat. And paper in the show cage. Good case for being wrong classed.

The rule of the day was.................if you were using the new d cups for seed, you had paper on the floor of the cage. If you were doing seed on the floor of the cage and no d cups then no paper necessary :(

  • 1 month later...

Well, we had a Southwest show today... Got some more shots of budgies behaving badly... Enjoy... :(

You should have tried to judge this fellow. I could not get him from humping his perch long enough to actually get a proper look at him - it was slightly embarassing to have to keep trying to stop him............

We couldnt keep a straight face eh LB :) That green budgie humped both perches at length at least ten times before he even got on the bench :(

AHHHH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :(:):D That is absolutely the most amusing thing I have seen in awhile! Thanks sooo much for giving me a good laugh

This guy only got second place but defaintly could have got 1st place, if like Nubbly said he would STOP HUMPING...! Those poor perches...

I know Kaz, people looked at us a bit weirdly to start with... "What are they laughing at...?" He made the day just that much funnier...

I suggested the well known breeder of this bird take him home and pair him up with any hen that looked like a perch
