Posted February 21, 201015 yr Hi folks, putting aside the debate of whether it's advisable to colony breed or not, I have the following questions: 1. Can nestboxes be placed at different heights in the aviary? 2. Can nest boxes be placed on top of each other? 3. How far apart should nest boxes be? 4. How many nest boxes per pair should be introduced? Cheers

March 1, 201015 yr 2 per pair and its best to have them all at the same height... I have to disagree JB , The hens cannot make up their mind when they are all together at one height , they will fight and swap and change more. If you use different heights the pecking order is sorted out quicker as the top hens go for the high boxes and the others go for the lower ones , once they have their box they are usually happy and get on with business as they dont fight for territory as much. That is my opinion ONLY . Trial and error is the only way!!
