Posted February 19, 201015 yr When he was young... now... When he wsa young, i was sure he is just spangle, but now i don,t know Edited February 19, 201015 yr by Zuzel
February 19, 201015 yr I can see why you would think so. Showing what is called opalescence through the wings. BUT doesnt seem to be an opaline. Lets see what the genetics buffs have to say Edited February 19, 201015 yr by KAZ
February 19, 201015 yr I see the lack of colour in the mantle, and the opalescence, but I am still thinking that this bird is not opaline. What were his parents? Was his father opaline?
February 19, 201015 yr Normals can display varying degrees of opalesence so there is no reason why a spangle can't. I would say it is a normal spangle. Cheers PT
February 19, 201015 yr I agree. This is a normal spangle, carrying Opaline gene so when you breed him you will get some opaline hens and split cocks. Edited February 19, 201015 yr by **Liv**
February 19, 201015 yr Author What were his parents? Was his father opaline? Unfortunately breeders in Poland don't care very much about mutations, so i have no idea what mutations his father had :/ But he was sold as violet spangle (not opaline)...
February 19, 201015 yr Author okay, so he is not opaline, but some degree of opalescense can appear on wings even in normal budgies? Is it normal that this sort of opalescence appear after first moult? I have an impression that its appearing gradually...
February 19, 201015 yr I agree with Kaz, even though he displays some opaline characteristics, doesn't mean he carrys the opaline gene. Only test mating will confirm if he is carrying opaline or not. PT Edited February 19, 201015 yr by chookbreeder9
