Posted February 18, 201015 yr Hello, I've been reading the forums and getting very confused about some terms used by you breeders, will somebody direct me to some info/thread about what's a lutino, lacewing(?) etc ? I am a budgie lover but all I know about them is they are my best friends :sadsorry: thanks!
February 18, 201015 yr hi flycrow breeders terms in form of variety as its these days called (mutations when i learn t ) are the diffrent pattens or markings and genetic linkages within our birds make ups lacewing : is a ino bird with the cinnamon genetics viable their is quiet often a debate weather or not these birds are just cinnamon ino but i belive not reason being the ino gene is dominant over the lacewing gene when putting a albino over a lacewing hen the cocks will be split to lacewing (split meaning carrying the cinnamon ino combined gene ) but will visually be ino all the femal chicks will be albino visually and wont hold any cinnamon ino combination of genetics this to me clearly says that they are in fact two different variates indeed however as when you place a albino split cinnamon cock over a lacewing hen you get cinnamon cocks split albino and lacewing cocks cinnamon hens and lacewing hens so as you can see although genetically close the variations are two different all three variatys combine in one way or the other to give you results able to produce these three variates in one breeding thus making it interesting yet confusing their is articals on the diffrent variatys in the bcv web sight i think and the uk one im pretty sure hope this helped a bit
February 18, 201015 yr Hello, I've been reading the forums and getting very confused about some terms used by you breeders, will somebody direct me to some info/thread about what's a lutino, lacewing(?) etc ? I am a budgie lover but all I know about them is they are my best friends :sadsorry: thanks! Hi 'flycow', We are all lost at the beginning, and I still am in a lot of cases. If you go to "mutations and genetics" on the PINNED ARTICLES at the top of the forum you will find various topics, COLOURS FOR BEGINNERS etc. if you read through these you can generally find explanations of what your looking for. Hope this helps

February 19, 201015 yr Author Thank you guys, I'm reading up now. From the pictures they are all really pretty birds, I hope I can differentiate them someday. What are those with fluffy heads they are so adorable, are they available to the common pet lover like me?
February 20, 201015 yr Hi, do you mean the crested budgies? The last lot on the link Kaz gave you? I haven't seen one myself but I've only started last year and don't show. Breeders might be able to say where you might find some.
February 20, 201015 yr Author not the crested but maybe the last one from Nubbly5 on this thread, not the bird, more of anybird with the head as it's really cute. okay I know I sound silly, not into breeding afterall. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....c=16974&hl=
February 21, 201015 yr I think I know which one now. BUT not being a show breeder I THINK that's what they call the blow? Show breeders can tell you more.
February 22, 201015 yr The Blow is an action that the bird does with the frontal. (forhead feathers) Simalar to a Peacock with the tail feathers. We say the birds is "Blowing" when it raises the frontal feathers... Nubblies is a very good example of a cock bird blowing..
February 22, 201015 yr Thank's Daz that's cleared that up then. Do they just "do it" when they ruffle their feathers say, or under stress e.g. ?
February 22, 201015 yr Thank's Daz that's cleared that up then. Do they just "do it" when they ruffle their feathers say, or under stress e.g. ? More a case of when they are either relaxed or trying to impress a girl budgie
