Posted February 10, 201015 yr Hi all just wondering what you guys think of the tail less wonder. Do you think it is a part of French Moult OR Genetic Just like to what different breeders think. Edited February 11, 201015 yr by KAZ
February 11, 201015 yr well im inclined to say its a mild case of french molt if the bird was fully feathered then lost its tail never to regrow or could be someone pulled it out never to grow back like not on purpose
February 11, 201015 yr Author Yes that's what I am wondering for example ..... the bird has his or her tail until their first moult and then it grows back but deformed, like not very long a short stub and feathers on the end or long but feathers hear and there. Talking about tails only. French moult or genitic
February 11, 201015 yr I cant provide full insight here but I have heard of tail feathers being pulled so new ones grow in for big shows, national selections etc and the tails that were pulled didnt regrow. I was reliably informed in these cases the follicles were damaged by the method and timing of pulling the tail feathers out.
February 11, 201015 yr Author I think that is true as I have read that somewhere. I am guilty of that and now wish I hadn't done it. I have a violet green baby just starting to go through his first moult and he is a stunner but silly me pulled his tail feather without cutting it first and letting it die , and now I have a tailess wonder
February 11, 201015 yr as you all know i have fm birds i have not breed 5 yet only 2 and i breed with fm birds and i have not got a fm out off them ??? i do have sume tailess wonder but most of my tailess wonder are my relly big head birds so i dont no
February 11, 201015 yr Author That's what i am wondering. You breed the big wide headed birds with good feather length etc and how often do you get a tailess wonder, this violet green is going to be a boofy head bird. How many other breeders have these big birds with heaps of feather and no tails?
February 11, 201015 yr I call it a pain in the ****! Good on you computer , you picked up that , Saved the mods some work  Edited February 11, 201015 yr by Matt Welchman
February 11, 201015 yr I have three tails less wonders, two cocks and one hen... All have great other feathers... I am yet to breed with them but one of them was from Hans, one of the cocks and he said it was one of his best breeders and got some really good young from him...
February 11, 201015 yr Author I am just wondering whether they pass it down, genetic or it is just that bird only. They are too good not to breed from but if we use these birds are we breeding a variety of tailess wonders
February 11, 201015 yr I am just wondering whether they pass it down, genetic or it is just that bird only. They are too good not to breed from but if we use these birds are we breeding a variety of tailess wonders  I was given a tailless cock awhile back and bred from him and all of his daughters have full tails. But I believe he lost his tail when it wouldnt regrow after being pulled.
February 12, 201015 yr I am just wondering whether they pass it down, genetic or it is just that bird only. They are too good not to breed from but if we use these birds are we breeding a variety of tailess wonders  i know of a breeder whos main spangle line is from a very good looking tail less cock all hens seem to have their tails all cocks seem to lose their tails easily from their words when i asked the same question one day to them so ...
February 12, 201015 yr Author Acutally the couple I have here are cocks too, hens all have tails, I wonder what it is?????? why cocks and not hens?????
February 12, 201015 yr my tail wonder I said early, from what I was told he never passed it on to his young... The other two one hen and cock I'm yet to use... Maybe most tail less wonder are from the tail pulling Kaz is tail about, as dont most breeders put down the french moult young...??? I could be wrong... :/
February 12, 201015 yr dont most breeders put down the french moult young...??? I could be wrong... :/ No..........most breeders dont.
February 12, 201015 yr Tailless wonder can be really good birds. I think its some sort of mild Polyoma virus (FM), they generally dont through birds with polyoma. Some months back there was a froum topic about the exact same thing, with some good discussion

February 12, 201015 yr Author This is a type of deformed tail they grow, has any body else have this problem? or a stumpy one with a little feather on the end.
February 12, 201015 yr This is a type of deformed tail they grow, has any body else have this problem? or a stumpy one with a little feather on the end. thats definitely a feather from a mild fm bird its pretty much feathers growing on top of feathers Edited February 12, 201015 yr by KAZ

February 12, 201015 yr Wow, Really Kaz...? Thats sad to hear... For me anyways... Wow, great picture Splat... I will have to check my out tomorrow now and see what theirs look like... off topic for one min why is that sad i think your refering to fm chicks being kept alive or am i wrong just as i myself i would not keep a mop alive but fm birds i wont kill i wont breed them either i have one i actually brought from a breeder hes a older cock bird but not one his chicks have ever been afected im still not sure i want to use him he is flightless though not tail less id use a mild molter i guess but if rezults were not good as in tail less chicks id not usehim or her again they make great pets for children and adults a like if you were not refering to that then disregard my writing
February 12, 201015 yr Yes I am refering to FM chicks Generic Blue... And no I don't want to start an disagreement with anyone on here about my thoughts on it, as there has been a few on here lately... So I am leaving my thoughts as that... Not being rude to you generic blue in anyways...
February 12, 201015 yr Acutally the couple I have here are cocks too, hens all have tails, I wonder what it is?????? why cocks and not hens????? my best hen i breed dont have a tail i pair it to a line with good big tails and i got tails on tut he babys see how thay molt out but Edited February 12, 201015 yr by shannon bird breeder
February 12, 201015 yr Author I don't think the tail feather is feather growing on top of what ever you said GB, The the feather looks normal but sparse in areas the quill or the shaft or what ever it is called is very thin. It's like it dies early on before it gets a chance to grow probably ( the feather I mean). Well I have never had french moult in this line but just seems when they get to thier first moult or this bird is almost 2 and I pulled that last night he still has one tail feather but has always had 2 till now. And believe me it has come from a good bird. So I have worked out the answer this year i will cross that line with a complete out cross and see what happens because till now I have been line breeding. and I have been putting the sibblings with half brother half sister and cousin to cousin. So if I completely bring in a unrelated out cross with good tails maybe that will fix it. This is the bird in question, the tail above belongs to and I won 1st at the young bird shield with him. and I do have a couple more with the same tail thing going and they are from the same line Violet Edited February 12, 201015 yr by splat
