Disinfecting Cages

Featured Replies

Wow, I've kind of gone a bit crazy with starting new topics the last few days, apologies! Blame university holidays and lots of time off from work! B)

My question is: What do you all use to disinfect a cage? The reason I ask is I've found a bargain second hand cage in my area.... I really wasn't even thinking of getting a second hand cage but it is a great model and really cheap. If I were to buy it I would want to NUKE it completely with disinfectant, in case the previous owners had passed away from any nasty diseases :laughter:

Thanks everyone, I promise I'll stop going crazy with the forum posts once university goes back :)

I use virkonS but there are others out there on the market, I knoe some people that use house disenfectant, Domestoc is handy.

VirkonS you can get on ebay :)

It is commonly known that the nastiest diseases in budgies are resistant to the usual bleaches etc anyway. I would go with Splats suggestion of the VIRKON S.

I have wire cages and i spray them with the high pressure hose then let them sit in the full sun for 6+hours. The sun is the words best disinfectant.

with my wooden nest boxes, i just keep records of who used it, and if there was any french moult or other deasease in that box, it gets tossed in the bin and I make a new one :)
