hello again ^_________________^

I'm going to buy some toys from eBay this week and wanted to see if anyone here had any safety concerns about the specific ones I'm getting.

233854629_tp.jpgBudgie Swing with lots of coloured beads, pacifiers and mineral blocks threaded onto wire. Finished off with 2 coloured bells. Hangs from a length of NP chain and attaches easily to cage with pear link included.

185296328_tp.jpgLots of 1/2" x 3" vegetable dyed wood blocks strung along nickle plated chain with three pieces of bright coloured plastic chain. Lots of coloured wood beads and wood slats hang from the bridge to form a fun place for clowning around with the flock! Pear links on each end support this toy so that it can be hung from the cage horizontally. This toy is approx. 50cm long (or wide when hung horizontally)

Can anyone recommend a good playgym to me as well? Thanks.

On another note: if I posted a thread with photos of my new apartment, would any of the members be interested in analysing it for safety risks to a budgie? I realize that is totally obsessive but I've just moved in and there are a bunch of things in this apartment that I am uncertain about.

They mostly look okay to me :) Anytime you have any toys with strings or fringing, cut the fringe down to an inch in length as many a budgie can hang itself by weaving through such fringing and flapping and twisting while they play ( I have lost three birds this way ).

Sometimes chain will catch a toe, toenail or foot. Best you make a decision based on that at the time re your budgies and size and type of chain.

Check where an item has been made and what dyes or paints have been used in them. Natural wood is best. Watch out for chinese made items.

Hope this helps.

You could post pics of the apartment on this thread. The toys look great but do as Kaz said and cut the fringing shoter.

You can avoid an issue with chain by threading stuff through the links, raffia or leather etc :)

Thanks for your quick replies, last night I went through almost the entire Safety section of the forum, and realised that budgies can die for the silliest reasons sometimes :) It's made me think twice about almost everything, so rest assured the members will be getting lots of annoying/pointless questions from me!

KAZ and Ratzy: Do either of you use playgyms for your budgies? What are some things to be careful about?

Re playgyms. I dont use them but if I were to I would just pay attention to coloured dyes or paint on some of them depending on where they were made :) Easier to clean if the wood is natural.

I have had various budgies commit suicide in lots of ways, so I am happy to point out any dodgy toys :)

I use a store bought playgym, This is what it looks like Link. l plan on upgrading the playgym soon to this one Link.

thats a nice playgym :D
