Posted February 4, 201015 yr Hi everyone I went on a raid to my nearest discount store looking for bits and pieces to make budgie toys from, and oh what treasures did I find! I just have one question for the members: I found these in there, they look like they could be great for toys, but being a cheapo/mass produced $2 item, it doesn't list what kind of wood has been used. What do you guys think? Are they too dangerous because they've been treated with colour? Of course I'm not going to risk it unless someone has found the exact same product and used it with no bad outcomes, so.... has anyone seen these or have any idea what they're made from? Thank youuuuuu Oh, and check out these sweet bead guys I found as well:
February 4, 201015 yr okay... beads/buttons are awesome!!! The other stuff looks cool too, but I'd want to know what they were made of first. Is there a website you could look up. I often buy things on 'My Parrot Shop' and they have things very similar to your first photo... but they make things for birds... the sticks are just rolled paper and the colouring is safe food die. The more I look at them, they appear exactly the same... but without knowing for sure, I personally wouldn't. Not worth the risk in my opinion. I'd be wary of the bells too, unless you can be sure of what they are made of.
February 5, 201015 yr Author The more I look at them, they appear exactly the same... but without knowing for sure, I personally wouldn't. Not worth the risk in my opinion. Yeah that's the stance I'm taking. Was hoping for more responses as to whether anyone had seen them before I'd be wary of the bells too, unless you can be sure of what they are made of. Really? I had no idea that some bells were made of dodgy stuff. What about them can be dangerous?

Also those bells in that pack have slits in them that birds toes can get caught in....once toes or foot is caught inside the gap a sharp edge can cut a toe off.....Investigate the bells a little closer.
February 13, 201015 yr Author I ended up buying some wooden blocks (coloured and plain), coloured paddlepop sticks and other stuff that's very similar to above, but from a brand that had a contact address listed on the back. I sent them an e-mail to ask what the wood & colouring was, so when I get a reply I'll let you guys know
